What are the prospects of finding a cure for Parkinson's disease?

I have been diagnozed with PD last August. My life is changing drastically as a result of that, I am very conscious of my bradykinesia (slow movement) of my left arm, and I get anxious thinkinng my time is borrowed and I need to accomplish as much as possible.

A cure is still a long way off. But we have made real progress in the past 20 years. We are learning more and more about the mechanism of the disease, and finding new targets for treatment, such as chaperone proteins, protein mis-folding, mitochondrial dysfunction, etc. Levodopa was a major breakthrough, but we hope to be able to have a treatment that will truly alter the course of the disease.

i have parkinsons disease i am only 35 i was 30 when i was diginosed so for my neurologist tells me there is no cure i take meds to keep the symptoms down but it gets worse from day to day i truly know how you feel but htey tell me that you can live just as long as anyone else there is no life expectantcy with it

My oldest sister has Parkinsons and suffers so much. We need to concentrate on a cure. I wish you well.

Mild exercise is helpful. Try knitting, as it can strengthen the muscles in both hands and help you keep your coordination longer.

I cannot answer your question, although I wish I could because my Grandfather suffered from Parkinson's but my prayers are definantly with you!!!!
