Ask yourself what you'd like to see if you found your great-grandmother's / great-grandfather's diary in the attic, from 100 years ago; their ordinary chores, their hopes and dreams, their view on current affairs; what made them laugh and what made them cry. Then write for both yourself 10 years down the pike, and your great grand-children 100 years from now.

When writing a diary, express yourself! Show emotion, be descriptive with your words. Describe the settings, the backgrounds, the people, and atmosphere around you. Vent about things that you wouldn't tell anyone. Write about your deepest darkest secrets. Anything goes when you write, just make sure to write it from your point of view and write down anything that is important to you. Write like there is no tomorrow or to the pen goes dry.

When I first started writing my diary I chose to write as if I were speaking the words. Think as if you were telling someone a story because basically that is what a diary is, the stories in your life.

I've been keeping a diary for over 17 years, and my best advice is too remember that diary are personal expression of our intermost fears and desires. Hold back if you want to, let go if you want to, just enjoy yourself.

yes, write only and only the things that made you happy that day, it should not be big things, for exemple being happy as you saw the baby, the butterfly, the good sunny weather, happy to see flowers and the beautiful nature, happy as the guy has opend the door for you, or that he helped you to carry your things.. and so on..
this lets you see how positive life is, in the opposite of all the bad news you see on tv or newspapers-
