Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
-Mary Frye
That first line is also the title. She wrote three different versions...

The Rainbow comes and goes,
And lovely is the Rose,
The Moon doth with delight
Look round her when the heavens are bare,
Waters on a starry night
Are beautiful and fair;
The sunshine is a glorious birth;
But yet I know, where'er I go,
That there hath past away a glory from the earth.

I am sorry about the loss of your friend.
"Peace! Peace! He is not dead;
He doth not sleep:
He hath awakened from the dream of life."
. ~ from Adonais by Percy Shelley
"The sun is fading in the west
And I am filled with peace
Because I know another shore
It rises in the east.
He, like the sun, slipped away
And left us to the night;
But I know, beyond our dark,
He smiles into the light."
. ~ an original from my collection
Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.

These poems from my favourite authors. I hope these will help.
Death Be Not Proud by John Donne
DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poor death, nor yet can'st thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and souls delivery.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppy, or charms can make us sleep as well,
And better then thy stroke; why swell'st thou then;
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die
Spring & Fall by Gerard Manley Hopkins
Margaret, are you gríeving
Over Goldengrove unleaving?
Leaves, líke the things of man, you
With your fresh thoughts care for, can you?
Ah! as the heart grows older
It will come to such sights colder
By and by, nor spare a sigh
Though worlds of wanwood leafmeal lie;
And yet you wíll weep and know why.
Now no matter, child, the name:
Sorrow’s spríngs are the same.
Nor mouth had, no nor mind, expressed
What heart heard of, ghost guessed:
It ís the blight man was born for,
It is Margaret you mourn for.

My oldest daughter's father died when he was 28. It's always tragic when somene so young is gone.
PRAYER FOR DEATH
(for one who has died)
You go from us
into a new becoming;
we rejoice for you and wish you an easy journey
into the Light.
The winds will speak to us of you,
the waters will mention your name;
snow and rain and fog,
first light and last light,
all will remind us that you had
a certain way of being
that was dear to us.
You go back to the land you came from
and on beyond.
We will watch for you,
from Time to Time.
Amen.

so sorry to hear about your friend xx
i wrote this poem for my mother in law when she passed and you are welcome to use it if it is fitting for you
when i think i need you most i feel your hand in mine
your arms wrapped around me filled with love divine
you are but a breath away, a single thought, a glance
and when i fear carrying on you help me take a chance
you have taught me to love, be thoughtful and be kind
and i know im never alone youre in my heart and mind
