Hi, I am trying to take off 40 lbs put on from a pregnancy 2 years ago. I am using a treadmill 5x a week for a 1 1/2 mile run/walk interval program, + some resistance training. My limitations are a very bad back, have already had 2 disc surgeries, and not wanting a 3rd. We live in the country so no real gym or swimming available. Any suggestions welcome, so far I have lost 8 lbs in 8 weeks, would like to increase that and get this over with! :) I am watching my diet and hitting around 2000 calories a day with lots of water and no dairy or fats. Thanks!

PS- My general practioner said it's menopause, live with it, screw that, I want my health back!

Actually, I think what you are doing is fan-freaking-tastic.

Your diet is 50% of the battle. Excercise is the other 50%. You'd addressed them both. 8 pounds in 8 weeks is what you DO want to see. It means that you are doing the right amount of eating vs exercise. Keep it up and this will become your "norm" lifestyle, and you will not gain the wait back...you will just plateau and keep it off. If you lose the weight faster than your body can adjust to, you will end up gaining it back. Stay on track.

Make sure that you are getting all the nutrients/food groups, and you are going to be incredibly healthy.

You are doing awesome. keep it up.

PS - get a new GP.

First of all, once you start to get menopausal 2000 calories a day is way too high if you want to lose weight. You need to be going on a drastic diet..no more than about 1000 calories a day. And you really need to stay active. Is there any possibility that you could get your hubby to put in a pool? Water exercises are always kinder to sore joints and muscles because of the buoyancy, but better because of the water resistance.

Try to mix up your workout a little. Your muscles will start getting used to the run/walk program, and while it is still great for your overall health. Changing it up a little will shock your metabolism and kick it into gear. Look for a low impact video tape that doesn't compromise your back. Maybe even a mommy and me video that lets you work out with your child. Also, loosing weight slowly is the healthiest way to do it, so don't get discouraged and keep up the good work.

Sugar free metamucil (generic from WalMart works) is great if you're drinking a lot of water. 3 times a day before a meal. Will help you keep full and regular.

Lots of salads, and other empty calory foods also. Good Luck

It sounds as if you are doing the right things as far as exercise. My personal opinion is that you are consuming too many calories. I think you should try 1500 for awhile and cut way back on carbs (bread, pasta, rice, sugar, potatoes), and see what happens.
