I asked a question a few minutes ago that was more or less a humorous play on words and people just went all serious. aparently a person has to write that something is a joke so stupid people don't get all worked up over it. Don't you think people should occasionally just chill out?

I just read your previous question and I thought it was funny. For anyone (like some people here) who thought you weren't joking, clearly their IQ is slightly lower than the average person. This brings up another issue: I think when anyone brings up religion and politics, people love to get worked up. I have my beliefs about religion (I am spiritual but not religious) but why am I going to get offended by someone elses beliefs that may not be similar to mine? I tend to think that those who get offended by those kind of things are not open-minded and/or are seeking out religion to compensate for other issues they have. Who cares what they think, they need to get a life.

Aha! I looked back at your previous question and I discovered the problem. It wasn't a humorous play on words at all. It wasn't particularly funny, and it wasn't by any means a play on words. It was a mediocre/unfunny joke based on a made up premise (that atheists think they are gods? hmm). I don't think people were offended, I think they just didn't get it. Because it wasn't funny.

A few quick comedy hints for ya:

1. A joke has to be based on a real premise to be funny. It has to make fun of something true. So I could joke about how silly Christians are for believing that God is a giant three-headed sloth, ha ha ha. But it wouldn't be funny. Cause they don't believe that.

2. When people respond "all serious" to your jokes in the future, check the joke. The problem may not be with THEIR sense of humor.

yeah you really do. I read that question I thought it was cute, not stupid or offensive.

I guess it depends on what kind of mood the answerer is in. personally I really detest the questions that are posted over and over and over again, regarding atheists and christians, like "why are atheists so stupid" or "why can't christians spell" i use to go off on those questions, but now i can't be bothered.

in conclusion, don't let it bother you, some people just love controversy and they live for altercations..... yeah they need to chill out

it really depends on what you write. most people are quite serious about their faith, thus when people degrade it, spew vile words, make nasty jokes, etc, their hackles are raised. i believe you're in the wrong section of the questions if you are making "jokes" about people's faith. if someone were to spew venom in your face & then laugh, would you just "chill out"? If so, i'm very sorry for you and wish you an awakening.

I think people take religion too seriously, thats probably why they went off in one. If you are chilled out about it then you have it better than they do.

You stumbled upon something that forced some people to examine their faith, in the form of wordplay.

Don't tell me...the atheists went off on you, right?

Your question sounded serious to me. There are guys who have that kind of reasoning for real. I cannot tell idiots from jokers any more...

Or is it that you WERE serious, and now that you didn't get what you bargained for, you claim you were joking?

I guess if people are expecting one sort of question, sometimes it bugs them when it's not that. (Actually, what one person told me in honesty was that they are already forming an answer - it bugs them to have to change it. (Which REALLY means they aren't interested in listening.))

Don't take it to seriously. (Let those other folks stress out for you! )

Because you are level 1 and you don't yet understand how this works...

Why are Atheists even in the religion section??? If you don't like it go away and find another section to piss people off in.
