Although the legal age for getting served in a public bar is 18 years of age. a person the age of 16 could get served alcohol with food if the establishments main purpose of business was food and not serving alcohol (Managers discretion) The actual age that you are allowed to consume alcohol believe it or not is 5 years old as long as they are on private property..These laws go back a long time and my personal view ids that there needs to be a total overhaul for silly laws that are still around like this one

You have to be at least 18 years of age to drink alcohol in a public house. Some, however, have set their own ruling and will not serve anyone under 21.

If you are 16 you will be served soft drinks or tea/coffee.

you are allowed to order an alcoholic drink with a meal in a pub at the age of 16, although usually best to get someone over 18 to order it for you as some pubs are a bit fussy about the law allowing 16 year olds to buy alcoholic drinks with meals.

a sixteen year old cannot (legally) drink alcohol in a pub, to drink alcohol legally in a pub you would have to be 18.

At sixteen, however, you can drink wine or beer with a meal.

Please note that you can drink alcohol at home (in moderate quantities and with parents permission) from the age of 5.

The legal drinking age is 18, unless you are having a meal.

you can drink lager, beer or cider when you are 16 if it is drunk with a meal. I also presume that you can drink wine. You can't drink shorts.
You have to wait until you are 18 to legally order a drink in a bar.
