I asked a question a few minutes ago that was more or less a humorous play on words and people just went all serious. aparently a person has to write that something is a joke so stupid people don't get all worked up over it. Don't you think people should occasionally just chill out?

Maybe folks just don't like it when other folks are smarter than they are. Ask dumber questions and things will probably improve.

Jocular tone of voice and smirking sarcasm don't translate very well textually. That's why people jump all over "jokes"... they may not've caught onto your "wordplay" or they thought you were being mean instead of facetious.
Also, some people really DO ask questions like that in all seriousness... the answerers probably thought you were one of those folks.

I'm all for having a laugh when people either a) ask a funny, humourous question or b) ask a stupid serious question. But when people ask a not-funny humourous question - it's just annoying.
Your question just plain wasn't funny... Sorry. :-\

I agree, however you can not transmit intent. Many people are so dogmatic they can not think freely. If one can not think freely they can not associate freely. People take things way too seriously. So, in answer to your question, yes people need to lighten up.

i guess, sometimes people will take things out of context or take a question in the negative/ its just being part of the board though,
i have posted quotes from Socrates and gotten idiotic quips, and the most interesting commentary on seemingly innocuous statements/ you just never know in here.....................
