YES, you can stop thinking of him! don't think that way. he is not for you if you are no longer together.
pray for peace of mind and strength.
change what you say to yourself into positive things.
take care x

Sweetie, you need to accept that this relationship is over. Obviously the relationship didn't work well enough to survive and you need to allow yourself to feel hurt about it whenever it comes up and to spend a little (not too much) time thinking about what you may have done badly (I promise you, everyone in every relationship does something badly) so you can learn something and grow. Try to find some things that really give you pleasure (healthy things - not mood /mind altering substances) and do them as much as you can.
Whether he ever comes back to you or not isn't actually that important - you need to find other sources of happiness and esteem so that if you do end up with him, or with someone else, you won't need to rely on that person to supply with those things. (They probably will, and should, sometimes, but you need as many sources of happiness as you can hold.)

Go places and do things lonely people do to get over lonely.
Take a nice week or week day ride in the country. go where you can meet new people not old friends you both knew to remind you of him. change churches and get involved in it.
Get a hoby, such as art, poetry, writing short stories.
meet new people online. ssometimes it's easier to deal with people you can't see when hurt. than work up to dating again.
If you are a student get involved in your home and school work like never before and go for top grades. nothing eases the mind like hard work. It's good for you.
Don't sweat the guy the longer he's gone the easier it'll be for you.
If you see him on the streets just smile and say
"hey Thanks" I am sorry but I needed my space.

Get out into the dating world. It may be awkward at first but so is becoming a crazy cat lady. Go out there and meet some new guys. Take your mind off of him, try to be as busy as possible. Good luck and you'll be ok!

Get counseling, this is not normal behavior. You need to move on and get a life and new love for yourself.
