I saw Pagans in the park in a circle with hands joined 'praying' for Ernesto to go away from us here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Christians this morning prayed hard in church for our protection. The Voodoo priestesses in New Orleans are casting spells in the mid-coast of the Gulf of Mexico's favor. Who do you think will have the most influence?
I am frankly grateful for all of them. The predicted path was turning away from us to the East this morning. I prefer the storm to dissipate and no one suffer but if someone has to, I really don't want it to be us. Is it wrong to 'pray' in this way?

Ernesto continues to turn toward the East but is weakening a little. We will continue to 'pray' that it breaks up before it comes close to anyone.

Wouldn't about any prayer that does good for one person end up, somehow, creating bad for another?
Say you pray for someone to not die. If they don't, this means someone else won't get the inheritance, maybe a charity organization who really needs the money.
Or you pray for it to rain on your crops. That means there is less moisture in the atmosphere to rain on other peoples' crops.
You pray for the hurricane to change course - if it hits anywhere, someone will suffer. Same idea.

Pray for all of us. And dear, it is not a competition. Just be yourself as your question reflects, and your prayer will give you peace.

It might just be easier to have Pat Robertson do has he did before...try to tell his 'god' to have it hit a certain state, then it went after him instead. But this time just have him do that and send him to a deserted island. ; )

First, human live's are at stake here and not human opinion. Now, if you believe in an Almighty benevolent Creator who cares for His creation and that in the middle of death and suffering He brings about His purposes for His creatures and children, then you have hope either in this life or the next. It is God who will decide if that hurricane strikes or not and how many deaths it brings about, but let's not forget that God does not delight in human suffering for His word declares it but because we have all fallen short and have sinned against Him who is the source of life as we know it then we will suffer physical death. But He is not concerned about our death, but about our life because He is love His word declares and wants to give us life abundantly as Jesus preached. And unless we repent of our sinful ways, we shall all perish and suffer physical as well as spiritual death. In the end, it won't be the pagan's circle gathering, the voodoo priestesses invocations, or even the Christian's fervent prayer but God's own mercy and love that will bring calm in and in the middle of any storm. God is real, for He has protected the one in danger who opens his or her heart to Him and even the one who is angry at God and denies Him, but remember that no one is exempt from dying but God is saying to you right now, will you receive my suffering on the cross in exchange for yours? And, do you want my resurrection life for your physical death? God the source of all life is the answer. He allows death and suffering to wake us up from our spiritua sleep, but on the other side of that He opens a door of everlasting life for all who want to enter. Remember, the God of all flesh is the Sovereign for He has declared in the past, Say to them, 'As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Israel?'
