there was 2 lanes to go straight i was on the right lane. the car in front of me was going to go straight with no signal light on, i was going to turn right....there was enough space between the front car and the curb for me to fit in so i could turn right....i moved in next to him to make the right turn and then all of the sudden he turned into me....i just want to make sure if its legal for me to do that? i mean there was plenty of space for me to fit and he wasnt going to turn right because if he was he would have got close to the curb to make that right turn...

it all depends on your state laws, in some states it is not legal no make a right turn on a red light, where in some states you can. i would consult your stste driver's handbook. you should be able to get one free from your local DMV

The law in California says to pull to the right as far as possible when making a right turn. It would be an interesting case to hear the result of. There is no law saying you must turn on red. The other car gave no signal and was not all the way to the right. Good luck.

Yes it is legal to turn right from the right lane without a turn lane. Infact, most of the right turns you make are from the right lane without a specific turn lane.

You are right, You were in the right place.

If the car next to you was making a legal right turn they would be where you were "and " they would have put their turn signal on
"no less than 100 feet prior to turning" !!!!

Dodgy.

It really depends how much space you can PROVE you had to the police, or the Judge. What he did was illegal.

Realistically you should probably have waited, but most people would squeeze through if there was enough room. So: If there was enough room & the police saw you they probably wouldn't pull you over. In the case of an accident - it's somewhat your burden to prove your inocence and judgement of safety.

Yes. It is legal to turn right without your own turning lane-as long as you're in the right lane. And in most places in the U.S., you can turn right on a red light also, as long as it's safe to go.

No. You can only make the right turn (legally) when you are the first car in line.

Guilty!!!
it's not legal. If there is no soecific turn lane then you have to wait for the car in front of you to proceed before you turn.

He forgot his turn signal and was careless, what you did was rude and illegal, yet people do it all the time. In my book your both at fault, but probably you more than him.
This is why you don't try and sneak around cars.
