I'm an atheist but i have no problem with any 'believers'. I've had my own brushes with religion and have come out an atheist but feel that the morals taught by the church are worthwhile. Something i don't understand though is that a variety of people on here state (as a fact) the bible was written by god, when we all know that it was written by men. More to the point they state that these men were told what to write by god, but if god is all powerful why didn't he just do it, then there would be no doubt of his existance. Also, how do we know that these men didn't just make it all up?

You have a point...40 different men, writing 66 books (the Bible is more of a compilation) over a 3500 year period, with no possibility that they communicated with each other, with a unity and clarity difficult to achieve by one person writing in one sitting...they COULD have made it up. 300 future events predicted 200-700 years prior to their occurrence...they COULD have made it up.

What are the chances of this happening, though?

Well for one example, the 10 Commandments were written by The Finger of God and etched in stone. The stones got crushed so what difference would it make if God wrote it all Himself or had man write for Him? I dont think men made it up for the simple fact that when man DOES make up writings, they always edify themselves, take the Book of Mormon and the Quran for example... Joseph Smith made himself more prophesied about in the Book of Mormon, than Jesus was in the Bible. Same with The Qu'ran... Muhammad is held in great esteem. Where in the Bible, the "great men" were very human. They sinned and God punished them. You wont find Muhammad being punished by God. Also, if man was writing the Bible for himself, what purpose would it serve to restrict sex so much, make pride and power sinful and humility and submission to God good? Doesn't sound like something man with ulterior motives would write does it?

The Bible was written by 40 writers inspired by God over a period of some 1600 years, yet the theme of the Bible is carried throughout, the vindication of Gods sovereignty and the sanctification of his name, Jehovah.

God wrote the 10 commandments, those men had faith in God and were willing to do his work, and if you believe in God then you must beleive the story of God .

Your observation on religion is pretty much truth.
I myself had the same experience in a way like yours...
but let me ask you...In what way, are you an atheist?
Do you believe there is a creator?
I know it's hard to put faith in the Bible that's written by man, but it is the oldest book of records of man.
There is some historical values in it, and some of its prophecy was already fulfilled.

Who are we to judge God but He made men write it to help others and we know they didn't make it up as God is powerful and can protect his word

Well, God did write the 10 commandments on stone for us... doesn't help us agree to live by them.

I think the word you were seeking is "inspired by God". Why would God need to do it himself when He wanted to communicate with man . They were moved by the Holy Spirit which is part of God .

Circumstantial evidence - as in previous posts. There isn't a notarized copy of any of it. That's where faith comes in. There's just too much coincidence for God not to have had a hand in it.

We don't. Simply put, it's all stories. And someone claimed God wrote the 10 commandments on stone ... if that's so... where are the stones now?
