I'd love to find out who told you that. There is a signifcant history of Islamic art, music, etc. There is also a very active artistic and cultural community throughout most of the Middle East. Now that being said, there are some limits. Some groups believe that there should not be any representations of human beings. Others don't.

That being said, there are very conservative Islamic and Christian sects who do believe that such activities are sinful as they detract from the attention that should be applied to religious practice.

I think you should be carefulw hen talking about sending people to hell. Just because you commit a sin, doesn't mean you are going to hell. there is only one unforgivable sin in Islam and that is taking a God other than the one God. But, as far as I know, God weighs your deeds. If your good deeds outweigh the bad, then your fate is favorable. But as far as artists, you may want to ask an imam about that. But, there were painters in Islam. There were also writers and poets. But all of these artists practiced their art within the boundaries of Islam

I don't think so. The tabernacle in the wilderness, the temple built by Solomon are both highly artistic. They point to the ways of God but the people, being blind in their spirit, did not perceive these things. Music is practiced in heaven. It all depends on the spirit of how something is done. For God, not to reach him. He is accesible. Our hearts are not. We are wicked. We must change. The world will one day end, and most people will perish. It is not the fault of God, that our flesh loves evil. The painter who makes a painting for you to worship, is a great sinner. It can only be something you look at to admire or appreciate it. You cannot rob God of his worship. Then, it is an idol.

Only Allah can judge , and only Allah knows. Some music is ok , depends on the type and the instruments used , painting is ok but should not be done of a person or animal , Dancing ... Contraversial ... some scholars say it's ok , some disagree but All scholars agree that women should NOT dance in a seductive manner to turn men on. It is a private thing.

First of all painting in islam is not a sin but dancing and singing is.

Singing is not a "sin" it is forbidden because singing makes you drift for away from god. You can see that most singers drink(alchol) while singing.

Dancing is not a sin. Dancing is for women not usually for men, a woman can dance but not in front of (other men than her husband)men or a crowd a muslim woman can dance and do anything but it has to be behind closed doors only.....

in the words of greatest shehanai player bismilla khan who recently died in varanasi, indian city, some mullas objected to his music as they considered music is the work of harraaam, the devil and violation of some versions of Islam. but he defied their version and played through out his life shehanai, a musical instrument.
