I have found several varying explanations / definitions. Is shock a definitive physiological state that can be mechanically described from start to finish or is it different for everyone?

Pathologically, it's a collapse of circulatory function, caused by severe injury, blood loss, or disease, and characterized by pallor, sweating, weak pulse, and very low blood pressure.

It will be different for each person.

Shock is a condition that occurs after damage to the body or heavy blood loss where the body starts to shut down various processes in order to keep the most vital organs working. It can, however go too far and close down so much of the body's activity that death occurs.

The sudden loss of heat and/or fluids from the body. In the case of trauma, the patient should be kept warm and bleeding staunched immediately.
