I'm sure some boxing fans think James "Lights Out at the Buffet" Toney vs. Samuel "The Predictable Nigerian Nightmare" Peter won't be a good match because of Peter's power, but it definitely isn't a mismatch based on what Wladimir Klitschko was able to do with Peter.
Klitschko, who was taller and the better boxer, beat Peter to hand him his first loss. Toney is a far, FAR better boxer defensively than Klitschko will ever be; Toney is also the better pure boxer than Peter, an exciting yet glaringly one-dimensional slugger. So, I think Toney, who is also more experienced, will give Peter a lot of problems in the ring early on.
However, based on Toney's track record for showing up in the ring out of shape while looking like a ball of fat, I would have to say Peter will eventually wear him down with devastating body shots before landing a knockout punch.

I agree with what most people said about this fight. The slick overweight veteran against the power punching one-dimensional youthful rookie. One point I dont think people touched on too much is that although Samuel Peter has a lot of power I havent really seen him go into the ring with more of a plan than to knock the guy over the top rope. In the Klitchko fight he was chasing him the whole time eating the jab and 1,2 all the way to grandma's house. I still think Peter takes over late with power but dont underestimate Toney. He looks so lazy in there guys swear if they can just swing at the fences they can take him out of there. Peter better be focused and efficient or this will be a hard one to watch with Toney taking a surprise split decision. For the record I say TKO in the 9th when Peter punctures any one of Toney's spare tires. I dont think this will actually be a great fight but its the best heavyweight division has to offer and its free which equals great to me!

Let me take a few minutes to educate. This what make a good great fighter.
1). Will - Ali always did say, it not the skill but the will.
2). How much a fighter can take not how much he can dish out.
3). Quality of opposition - trail by fire makes one great.
4). Adaptability - When someone is kicking his butt, can he change his style.
5). Skill as a boxer, athlete and strategist.
Now I will answer your question. James Toney in a decision over Samuel Peter.

toney's got a hellofa chin, and his defensive, counter-punching style should help him in this one. the experience factor is nearly a shutout. putting peter in with klitschko was an atrocity. a good manager would've put him in with at least a couple of good "b" level fighters, like a monte barrett, or maybe an experienced (but over the hill) fighter like briggs or mercer. yet after the loss, peter fights 2 more bums and now fights what i consider another top-level fighter (for this generation anyways). my prediction: toney will absorb some hard blows in the first several rounds. in the middle and late rounds both fighters will fade, with toney being a little more active and landing the more accurate punches. toney wins a decision. ohh yeah, u asked a question didn't you? lol. i consider a good fight one that i WILL NOT MISS, and i WILL NOT MISS this one. i want to see a SMART samuel peter bring his best, and if we get that, we should be in for a memorable fight night.

James Toney is a better boxer than Peter but I believe he is obviously lazy in his training habits. Peter does not have a lot of experience but has enormous power. I would not be surprised if Peter knocked out Toney.

I'm a Toney fan but i think Peter's power and youth will be too much for Toney to handle at this point in his career.

James Toney will come in at around 225 which is down 12 pounds from his last fight. Sam will test James rock chin and come up short as James knocks Peter out in 8 or 9 rounds.

I agree with you on Toney. That said, he will fight well if he senses danger. I hope to see a decent even great fight. Hoping Peter takes it!

Other than against Roy Jones, when have you ever seen Toney in a mismatch?
