They poop from day one. If he isn't going he may be constipated. Consult a veterinarian to check out the kitten. A warm wet cloth rubbed gently from belly to butt should stimulate the bladder and bowels to produce. You may be feeding him the wrong food, too. What are you feeding him? I think the kitten formula is called Esbilac or something along those lines. A pet store or Petsmart should have the formula in stock. Make sure you make it according to the directions.

Sweetie, this is NOT a stupid question, but a very *important* question because it could mean the difference between life or death for your kitten.

The suggestions about stimulations for a bowel movement are very good. This kitten is also getting to an age where it might use a litter box if you put him in there. Be sure NOT to use clumping litter, because at first kittens think it's something to eat & it will clog them up. Use regular cat litter or crystals or the pine litter. Anything but clumping.

Next, make sure the kitten is getting enough to eat. It is just barely old enough to be starting on solids.

Before we get into that, make sure you're using KMR or "Just Born". You don't want to use cow's milk. If the kitten is not going poo, he may not be getting enough fluids. You can bottle feed him - in fact you can order an emergency kit that has all you'll need.

To start on solids:
1) You can buy something called "Second Step". This is formulated by the makers of KMR, and designed especially to introduce kittens to solid food.
2) You can take a good quality dry KITTEN food such as Royal Canin or Eukanuba, put it in the blender to crush is up (or roll it between 2 pieces of wax paper with a rolling pin). Then add KMR to make it very "gloppy"
3) One breeder I know recommends plain baby rice cereal, mixed with KMR.
4) Just as a starter to encourage the kitten to eat, you can use a jar of baby meat, moistened with sterile water or KMR. This is not a good steady diet; just to help your kitten to like solid foods.

In all cases, use an ordinary teaspoon to "shovel" the food into its mouth. He will spit most of it out at first, but will learn soon enough.

Good luck!

Hi, i've dealt with this before when a mother that i had didn't want the babies. One thing for you to know, Cats will die if you feed them cows milk. it's got way too many things that they can't digest. Go to a vet and get the proper kitten milk, after about a day it should clear up, but you need to do it ASAP. It's important to his health and his life. If your doing this already try stimulating for a longer period of time or getting a softer cloth.
Hope this has been some help.

I hope your feeding a kitten formuler milk like KMR. Not cows milk. Stimulate the kitten right after it eats. With a warm cloth around the anus. If you do not get any results in another day or two .It would be best to take the kitten in to your vet. Or at least call to get some suggestions.

Usually you will have to keep stimulating after they pee, because that is when they usually poo (after peeing). They also pee and poo after sukling...
How often do you feed them per day? Do you feed them the special cat formulae? Cow milk is not good for cats! It can came in handy but it should not be the main diet of a kitten.
Becarefull to make sure the kitten is not constipated, if it is please consult your vet as soon as possible.
Good luck.

at 3 1/2 weeks they can usually go on their own. they may not poop as often as you think. I foundmy kitten at 2 weeks but its been 5 years and I forget how often she pooped but she did pee more often then she pooped.I would call a vet and just ask. I call a my vet when I have a question and they usually can answer it.
