Only the Christian Right/ Neocons (IE: Bushites) want a theocracy, and not unlike the one in "A Handmaid's tale". Fundamentalist in any religion gravitate towards theocracies, because it the only real way effectively force a religion down people's throats.
Just remember GW's words "You don't get everything you want. A dictatorship would be a lot easier." Describing what it's like to be governor of Texas.
(Governing Magazine 7/98
"I told all four that there are going to be some times where we don't agree with each other, but that's OK. If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator."
-- CNN.com, December 18, 2000
"A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it, " [Bush] said.
-- Business Week, July 30, 2001
"I'm the Commander, see ... I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being the President ... [I] don't feel like I owe anybody an explanation."
--Speaking to the National Security Council

Their lives already are a theocracy and they want other people to have to follow their rules. They also feel they have all the right answers, so a government based in their religion would be the best government possible.
Wouldn't you want your beliefs to be the mandated beliefs of everyone? Now, the problem is, whose theocracy are we talking about? Christian, Muslim, Jewish? No one wants a theocracy based on someone else's beliefs.

That's how the bible got written in the first place. Rulers got what ever they wanted out of their ppl by saying it's what god wants.
Those books were for that country's government, not ours.
Who would ever think, those books would get translated, passed all over the world and used in church to brain wash the masses?
It seems like the Christians would like it, a big fat preacher running the country, hey how about hagin?
Could you imagine Christians voting for their favorite religious icon ?
It would be hilarious, I think there would be terrible fights.

You think man has done a good job?! The Kingdom of God is righteousness...meaning all that is right and good. But if you have no sensibility for those things then you wouldn't want a theocracy.

Some people are brought up in religious families. The standard of education is not upto the modern standards. And lastly it is to a certain extent their own fault too, that they don't study political science and civics to comprehend the true meaning and spirit of secularism and democracy.

Because it's been so long since the times of the Spanish Inquisition that we've forgotten what living under a religious dictatorship is like.

Because they don't have the mental capacity to interpret the bible through the revelation of the holy spirit themselves, or they are just too lazy to.

The only reason I can come up with is, maybe they just want everybody to be equal. Equally miserable, that is.
