depends on what the insult is.

I've always believed that some people are meant to turn the cheek, then there are people like you and I that are meant to fight back.... there's got to be a balance, people who constantly insults others... eventually they will get what's coming to them.
Do I promote violence? No, but in a situation like that, it's more about defending yourself. Sometimes to defend yourself, you have to give it to them harder than they gave it to you, and if that means hitting them, or plotting an evil act of some sort on them, then that's the way I believe things should be done.
Hey, somebody's gotta teach them lessons...

Someone can call me a fool, a bastard or an idiot and I will totally ignore them. I am none of the above. However, if someone attacks my honesty or my integrity, I give them the opportunity to apologise in front of those who were present when the insult was made. If they do not, and this has taken me years to formulate, I totally ignore them. As far as I am concerned they no longer exist. I do not speak to them, I do not hear them and in fact with a little practice, I do not see them. I carry this on for non specific periods - the longest being 22 years with one of my brothers. It is a fantastic system and very easy to follow. It saves me losing my temper, having arguments or fighting (which I have seldom if ever done)..................

Most people that insult and are nasty suffer from lack of self esteem. It is really hard to swallow at times, but in all honesty the best way to "retaliate" is to smile and ignore them.
They want to make you mad. You just beat them at their own game whenever you don't stoop to their level.
It can still make you had as you know what, just wait until you get somewhere private and then vent. That will keep you from taking it out on someone innocent.
That always works for me. : )

I look at them and say "I'm so sorry that you feel the need to insult me. Is your own self asteem that low? What can we do to help you fix it?" I actually said this to someone who called me names at work. They just looked at me and said "What?" and walked away. I have never been bothered by that person again. They also quit insulting a couple of other people at work too. Good Luck!!

i have always been easily influenced by negativity. It is hard to turn the cheek if you have pride. But when you are beat down your whole life you tend to turn the cheek. Reserve your emotions for some one who earns them through trust. Dont waste your energy on someone who doesnt deserve it. Chances are that if they are insensitive enough to say something rude then i am sure that nothing you say will change their ways.

I have a couple of problems when that happens. I'm such a laid back kinda guy and assume that others are in the same frame of mind that I can't shift from good guy gear to a**hole gear fast enouph and I lose the moment. Then 20 minutes later I catch myself coming up with a sharp retort going dammit I should have said that. It does nothing but piss me off!!!!!

Good question.
Best of all is to walk away and don't interact with that person anymore. Hoever, sometimes you have to work with them or still have to communticate. No, most definitely, I don't turm other cheek. I'd say, I duck. If necesary, I fight back.

the insult is normally the other persons reaction to what he she perceives and cant handle.
if u are watchful, mindful or observant u ll realise that by not responding or ignoring ull oput that other person thru torchure
much more than if u retaliate
