I have kinda coarse, and terribly thick wavy/curly brunette hair. I want to get it softer, shinier, and frizz free at home, but how?

most of what i would say was already covered with the other answers, but when you buy your shampoo and conditioner, get 2 bottles of the conditioner and in the shower use twice as much. also make sure on the bottle it says for dry/damaged hair. good luck!

This is what I do.
First wash your hair, lather a few times, make sure you get all the shampoo out. Towel dry, comb once with a wide-toothed comb, then use leave-in conditioner (I suppose normal conditioner works too, just don't use too much) and heat protection spray. Then blowdry and comb it until it's pretty dry, then use a flat brush-don't use a brush when it's wet, it breaks your hair. Get it completely dry then brush it so it has no knots, then flatiron it in layers. Go slowly using medium heat. 5 layers works for my hair, and it's pretty thick; you may want to do 6. Most of the frizz will be gone then. If you're still not happy, use a little frizzease. It should be soft and pretty much unfrizzy. If it's not shiny enough you can use shine spray, but I don't reccomend it because then the next day it gets greasy and you have to wash it again.
It takes a while, so don't try to do it in the morning before school.

Make sure it is super conditioned. I use a hair mask at least once a week. You might need to start with a super hydrator, put it on damp hair, wrap a towel around it and either sit in a sunny place or under a hair dryer if you can (the heat helps it penetrate better).
After that, you can start using a hydrating product daily to keep the minimal frizz down.
Just be patient and care for it-- you will get there!

When you wash your hair...make sure you use conditioner too...it works wonders on making your hair a hell of a lot softer. Then after you blow dry it or straighten it or WHATEVER you do to your hair...after it's dry and styled put this stuff called Gernier Fructis Style Smoothing Milk. You know? That stuff in the green bottles? The smoothing milk is for frizzies. Put a very little bit on your finger tips and smooth onto your hair and brush it through. This stuff is my new best friend. It makes your frizzies go away, smoothes your hair and makes it smell GREAT. I love it! Try it! It's only like $2 or $3. It's worth a try.

DO NOT USE A CURLING IRON!!!!!!!!!!!! It will just make your hair really really really really really dry. ummmm I would say to by some shampoo and conditioner and get a spray that you put on your hair....that frizz ease works pretty good.
