Vaccuum advance is only functioning when the car is actaully running. It should not cause hard to start problems. If you are having problems starting hot some things to look at are
1. Timing (not Vac advance but static timing)
2. Tired battery
3. Tired Starter
4. Tired or corroded terminals
5. I have had to replace many sets of battery cables as they get older as they unable to carry the needed current to crank the motor.
A hot motor is much harder to turn than a cold one so any thing that is tired will slow the system down.

to check the vaccume advance you can remove the vaccume line and crank the engine then put your finger over the line and see if a vaccume is present. then remove dist. cap and make sure all componets are working properly. But from the sound of what your saying it sounds like the starter is binding up from heat i have seen that before in many vechicles it will crank very easy when engine is cold but when it gets hot it cranks real slow like the battery is dead.check out the starter also

Vacuum advance affects performance-Mechanical Advance is another chicken.U need 2 have the Battery LOAD tested & a STARTER Draw test.UNLESS U have a gaZillion miles on it & the Timing Chain is flopping around & ready to break.

You have got a lot of good advice and a lot of things to check. Also check the coil. When a car is hot so is the coil and when the coil fails it does not supply a good enough spark when hot. (They work fine when cold)

The vacuum advance has nothing to do with starting the vehicle. and if the timing was that far off, it would do it cold also. You may have a starter problem.

Hook a timing light up and check timing, apply vacuun to the dist. and see if the timing changes. Timing can make it start hard if its off when its hot.
