my doctor has advised me laser operation for my retina as it is developing some tiny holes in it

It should last for a lifetime, unless there are complications with the surgery. I think there's a bit over a 1% chance of a screw-up. If your doctor advises it, go for it.

Once there is damage to the retina, you are at a higher risks for future problems. Chances are the repair work your doctor did is still fine, it is just around the laser spots that the holes are appearing. It also depends on what caused the problem to begin with. Retinal holes sometimes have underlying causes. It's not anything to do with your doctor screwing up the first time. You may just have a weak retina, but I'm glad to hear you go to him on a regular basis so he can monitor these things.

Have you seen an Ophthalmologist?If so, get a second opinion from a Retina Specialist. General Ophthalmologists are good but Retina doctors specialize and know the retina better.
