During my trip to San Francisco last week I spent sometime at a bar accross from Holiday Inn Express F. wharf on North Point. I tried to order a Caipirinha for the night but it took me a while to explain what it is because the bartender seemed not knowing what it is, so i had to order myself a gin and tonic...so I want to know if Caipirinha is widely known in N. America? Or I happened to bump into a inexperienced bartender?

Caipirinha is a Brazilian cocktail made with Cachaca, lime, sugar, and ice.

Here in Chicago, the more upscale bars will be able to accomodate. Here at my house we make them all of the time. Delicious. We prefer the strawberry version instead of the lime.

no.. most places will not kno what it is.. unless you are specifically at a Brazilian bar. maybe some kind of latin bars would serve them.. but even so.. most likely they will be mixed wit rum or vodka.. instead of casasha .. which is the alcohol brazilians use.
its no good with rum or vodka.. tastes nothing like the drink.
