I think you have been listening to Edwin Starr. What a song! These lyrics have a very contemporary feeling to them, don't you think? So true!
War! huh-yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Uh-huh
War! huh-yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again y'all
War! huh good God
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me?
Ohhh? War! I despise
Because it means destruction?
Of innocent lives
War means tears
to thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
and lose their lives
I said - War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War! Whoa, Lord ...
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me?
War! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War! Friend only to the undertaker
War! It's an enemy to all mankind
The thought of war blows my mind
War has caused unrest in the younger generation
Induction then destruction-
Who wants to die?
Ohhh? War Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it, Say it, Say it
War! Uh-huh Yeah - Huh!
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me?
War! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War! It's got one friend, that's the undertaker
War has shattered many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled bitter and mean
Life is much to precious to spend fighting wars these days
War can't give life, it can only take it away
War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War! Whoa, Lord ...
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me?
War! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War! Friend only to the undertaker
Peace Love and Understanding;
tell me, is there no place for them today?
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there's got to be a better way
War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
You tell me
Say it, Say it, Say it
War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Stand up and shout it.
Nothing!

I think that you are an absolute idiot for stating such a thing. You can wish that war would go away, but unless you wanted to be a lampshade or speak German or Japanese, WWII was necessary. How else do you convince the other side to mind there own business and stay home? Speak very harshly to them? Doesn't work dummy

We're not speaking German under a fascist regime, are we? And we don't have dehumanized slaves picking our crops any more.
Sometimes war is not only the last resort, but it is the only resort to stem power starved fanatics and policies which spit in the face of basic human dignity.
This line from the song is a very good example of oversimplification and preaching to the ignorant, pacifist, flower power hippies of the past. In the real world, not everyone abides by the adage, "Live and let live."

Why don't you get a round table discussion of the pre, oh, 1945 city fathers from Carthage, Samarkand, Mittelburg,Hiroshima,Hamburg, Dresden and Nagasaki to discuss it? War is horrible but it is very productive. Did you know that over eighty percent of medical advancement were made due to activities during war. That is only one area war advances.

War is natural to human nature. It is necessairy but that dosen't mean it's good. We would not be America today if there were no wars. Wars short term are destructive but in the longterm can be a great pivital change for the betterment of the victor.

The life cycle of countries usually involves war. It is how they are born and die.
Personally, I'm happy we fought some wars. Especially WWII. I don't fancy being ruled by the Japanese.

Will you still think that war is good for nothing when some crazed extremists are about to cut your head off?

I has been going on since the dawn of man. According to Jane Goodall and other zoologists like her even chimps engage in warfare using sticks and stones as weapons.
