The people of Iraq would spell the name of their country in Arabic script. How did that become "Iraq" in English?

they spell it with there alphabet and that is the spelling translation . and Irack has a different meaning I Rack means to rack some thing up we use the the q in many word in or own language quiet . Way is it not kuyit the q has its own sound . LMK

Here's a question for you: Why is the word dumb spelled with a b at the end rather than dum? Maybe you should think about that.

in arabic language you speel the word like you wite it exactly there is no extra letters like french or english language
Iraq = عراÙ
I=ع
r=ر
a=ا
q=Ù
because there is some very hard phonic in Arabic language dose not found in any other language like ع so they put I letter to represent theع letter ,and q to represent Ù

First of all..Iraq is not an English word..so why would we have to change it.
Secondly..what difference would it make to you? Would it help you pronounce it better? Is it that hard for you that you need to spell it out phonetically?

The "q" is used by English-speaking scholars to translate the "k" sound in Semitic languages, i.e. Qatar, Quran, etc.
However, in other languages it's spelled with a "k", or sometimes a "c".

The actual sound is not something we have a letter for. So q is close even tho in english we make it sound like a k. same with kaddafi or quaddafi.

Because there is not really an equivalant to the letter in English, Sometimes they use "GH" instead.
