They want you to confuse the two. So you will think that whatever comes from the Government, has God's Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. It's called "Brain washing " and starts when you are very young. Sadly, this is reflected in the willingness for young people to rush off to war. It's far easier when the enemy speaks a different language and is a differant colour. It is so sad to hear the loved ones of the young men & women killed in Iraq or Afghanistan saying how proud they are and that their loved ones are safe in the arms of God. Except for a bunch of virgins, it's pretty much what you hear Muslim parents saying. If this is what Allah , Yahwah, or Jehovah wants, than they are very evil beings. I am very proud of our Armed Forces, but To die in countries, where they are not wanted because our leaders decided to invade, is heartbreaking.

Some people can't tell the difference between honoring and worshiping. The original text in the Bible for worship means to; kiss toward. The U.S. flag is a symbol that represents American ideals like freedom, justice, opportunity. These ideals have been defended with the blood of those who believed their value was worth the sacrifices they made. We honor their sacrifices and the flag represents that they are still upheld. This is not worship.

Worship toward God is love, gratitude, praise of a Person who made us and continues to hold us. Think about this; if an atom is a bundle of energy (nucleus) encircled by other smaller bundles of energy (proton and neutrons) what is holding this together? All matter is energy in a stable shape. No-one can duplicate or contain one by their will, they can't even explain it. Where did the energy come from? Why does it stay together? Why isn't everything just canceled out in one giant discharge between positive and negative?

There is no desire by the government for you to worship the flag.

What government does that? I suspect that this is a distortion of something. Our own government doesn't want anyone to "worship" our flag. The First Amendment forbids a state religion, so one isn't forced to worship your deity, either. Probably, you are lamenting attempts to take "under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance. Well, it has no more right to be there than "under Brahma", "under Zeus", "under Allah" or any of the other imaginary deities. The Pledge was first published in 1892 without "under God", and it did just fine without it for 62 years. It would be better now with it removed. You need to study some Logic in college.

I agree that the "Pledge of Allegiance" isn't very good.

There's a better oath taken by newly naturalized citizens (see source). It doesn't suggest loyalty to a flag (an idea whose downside must be all-too-obvious in recent years), and doesn't place the nation beneath some religion (as does the post-1954 version of the Pledge of Allegiance). It does end with "so help me God", but the service provides explicit instructions on administering the oath to those of us for whom that line is meaningless. I suggest that compared with the "Pledge", this oath far better demonstrates the loyalty of U.S. citizens, in particular as my nation is not "under" anyone's gods. The United States is better than religion.

Respect is worship? Yes, I suppose they could be the same thing to those who have never actually respected or worshiped anything. We know fear better than respect or worship. To understand respect, and worship try this: Imagine in yourmind that you are stuck in a substance that makes you move slow, and someone comes along and removes that substence and then while the substence desolves, that person waits for your response. What you give them is respect. Worship is spreading the idea that the removal is only their right, not yours, even tho you could do it since you saw them remove you. So, is it the governments wish that we worship its symbol, or is it that the government wants us to respect its laws?

It is for followers not leaders. THe leaders understand they are looking at a symbol. THe follower think the flag is what they worship. Just like people worshiping a church or preacher not a god.

Our patriotism has grown over time to include things like not touching the flag to the ground because its disrespectful. (as if it were an idol)

Patriotism is best manifested by serving God and your country and not obsessing about making the flag "holy" and something to be worshipped. I agree 110%!

I don't think they necessarily want that cause a lot of politicians use their religion when they're debating about things like abortion and stem cell research.

BUT ALL HAIL THE HOLY FLAG!
