Hi, i know im allergic to ibuprofen but my doctor has prescribed to me a tablet to take so the ibuprofen wont make me ill. The thing is ive been taking them 1 a day as well as the other tablets but, i know have sharpe pains in my chest on the left side and it hurts when i breath in. I am suppose to start taking two ibuprofren today and, i took two and now the pain is worse. The tablets are gasrto restistant tablets so the ibuprofen wont affect me, but i think its the ibuporfen that is causeing the pain as it is similar to last time, when i had the side effects. Does anyone know why this happens and has anyone else got this.?

Just be calm and call a friend to come to you now, or even the person next door, and tell them what you wrote here. It may be nothing at all but just in case it is serious I think you should go to the A&E at your hospital. Probably nothing at all and they won't mind your going there. Better to be sure than sorry isn't it. Lordy I am having a sympathy chest pain with you....Must take my own advice. Good luck you will be fine.

Must tell you this ...I half heard something on radio some time ago about Ibuprofen and that it could cause heart attack if taken with something that started with Dic..... I 'm sorry I do not know the full name but just so you know. Don't be afraid.

Have you inadvertently knocked yourself on your left side? - bruised or broken rib??

Is the pain like you've been stabbed with a red hot poker? - a very sharp pain??? - how long have you had this pain? does it remain whether you're standing, sitting or lying down. does your breathing ease if you lay down?

Have you recently been on holiday? Flying??? Do you often sit in the same chair in the same position for many hours during the course of a day??

There are a number of possibilities to your pain and as you may be able to deduce from my further questioning, it is possible (i put it no higher than that) that you may have either broken a rib - in which case yes it is very painful - and if you haven't received proper medical care - you need to do so very soon.

The other possibility is either a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) - which is why I have asked whether you've recently been on holiday and taken a flight. DVTs can lead to a pulmonary embolism - a blood clot inside the lung - which is very painful (been there, done that, bought the 'T' shirt) and they need to be treated very seriously - if any of these possibilities exist - you need to seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY.

Since you have already ruled out the possibility of a heart attack - you now need to consider seriously the other possibilities and take appropriate action.

If the pain worsens when breathing in, it might be a part of the lung sticking to the lining that surrounds it. When you blow out the air, if the pain stops it is not a heart attack. If the pain is still there you need to call a doctor or hospital and discuss with them the whole situation.

Call a friend or neighbor to check on you.
Do it NOW.

See your doc.

Could be a lot of things:
1. What you think it is.
2. Since pain occurs when you breath it, could be pluracy or other lung problem.
3. In your chest, then heart burn or other problem that could cause gas pains.
4. You could have a knife stuck in your back.
5. The list goes on.

If not going to ER, then call your doctor first thing in your morning so he can consult you about your meds and give a quick check up.

I'm no doctor so would hate to give bad advice. But your symptoms sound severe.

Have you considered phoning the doctor and asking him what the problem might be?

Or, if you feel a bit silly doing that, try an online net doctor or if in the Uk, phone NHS direct - 0845 4647 - they give impartial advice and won't inform anyone else you phoned - they will tell you if this is serious or not.

Sharp pain in the chest when you breathe could be a cracked rib which can happen with something as simple as coughing too vigorously.
When I last took Ibrupfofen I sat at my computer, remembered the screen going blurry and lost 30 minutes. Fortunately my computer chair has arms and I did not fall.

Mostly this pain is because of the gateric problems. This can be associated with burning at the stomach opening or just the simple pain in the left chest. The pain related to a heart desease normally shift from chest to the left shoulder.

In any case please cosult your doctor and even if it just the gateric pain, you need to tell the doctor and get thorughly examined. Please tell him you get this pain when you take the pills and may be he can change the ibuprofen with some other medicine.

It's not a heart attack, if it was you'd be in so much pain you would not be able to type. You've probably pulled a muscle, and should stop taking the Ibuprofen at once and try something else.

Stop taking the tablets and consult your doctor. If you can`t wait till tuesday to see him, go to your local A+E and get a second opinion on your condition, don`t leave it too late as the worst can happen if left unchecked. Don`t mess with your body. I agree with nightrider- get it checked.
