I just bought an AMD 64 X2 4600 processor with an ASUS A8N-VM motherboard. I am currently running MS WIndows XP, oem. When I put in my new hardware, do I have to reinstall WinXP? (NOTE: I am keeping the same hard drive) I've been told I need to get a recovery CD from the computer manufacturer. Any help would be great.

Don't worry about the recovery cd until after you have installed the mb and booted up.. then, make yourself a recovery cd, but, since you are running oem, make sure that you have service pack 2, ie sp2 on your system...
then, do the recovery cd.

Be prepared for Micosoft to identify your XP as a pirate copy. This happened to a student from U of D who lives across the street from me.

No. No part of Windows XP is stored on the motherboard. It is all stored in the hard disk.
