Puppies regardless of what size breed they are should be fed at least 3 times a day. Unless you have an unusually well behaved dog, "free feeding", as it is so commonly referred to may prove to be a messy situation as your young pup learns to control their bladder. There is nothing wrong with setting a CONSISTENT schedule for any dog. Puppies should have access to fresh, clean water all day long though. You should look at your schedule and see when would be the best time to walk and feed your dogs daily at the same time. For instance I walk my dogs at noon then feed them. Then I walk them again between 10:30 and 11 that night every day. My 3 month old puppies do pretty well with this schedule, though sometimes if I finish with my work early I will take them out at 9 or so, but generally it works.

I free feed mine. This is important when they are puppies, especially when they are small breed because they have an increased risk of hypoglycemia, which is basically low blood sugar, and quite serious. Access to food at all times will prevent this from happening. Larger breed dogs don't have to worry about this, so scheduled feedings work well for them, but since you say your dog is going to be 20 pounds, I would recommend free feeding (especially if your puppy is under 6 months old), or frequent meals throughout the day (four or five small meals). Stick to the recommended amount of food for your puppy's weight though.

My dog is old so I don't remember...but I would guess 2-3times a day. I would look at the chart in the back of your puppy's food.

However, small puppies do need to eat a lot because they metabolize so much faster that they need food throughout the day for their energy. Otherwise, your going to have a lethargic puppy.

Everytime I go to the vet and ask how often I should feed an old dog they always refer me to that chart on the dog food. So if you asked the vet, they would probably say the same thing.

You didn't mention what breed your puppy is..If you already know that your dog is going to be a big dog, make sure that you are not feeding it so much that it causes him to grow too fast because it may cause the puppy to have joint problems later in it's life.

I have a golden retriever puppy, she is 20 pounds and I feed her 3 times a day. It really depends on the kind of food your giving her . If your not exactly sure you could also ask your vet.

Good Luck!

My Opinion is three times a day and the best way to figure out how much is to set down an amount of food and see how much she can eat in 10 minutes puppies are growing and need alot of protien to help, so it's better to feed her to much right now than not enough.

It is best to feed about 3 or 4 times a day breakfast, lunch & dinner :) with water, keeping them on a schedule especially if still potty training, then you know in about 30 minutes to an hour time to take them out for potty, using a spot they have used before to help them remember that is what they are out there for :) Good Luck

Depending on how old she already is .
You would feed her 3 times a day until she is about 6 months old , then go to 2 times a day being sure to keep within your puppy food guidelines. once she is a year old then you can go to once a day .

Puppies should be free fed. Always have food available for them. At a year feed them once a day.

Hi I have three dogs and three cats and I always just top up there bowl when needs be and then they can just eat when they are hungry. I only feed them on dry complete food and they do really well on it. As its not meat they don't gorge on it but always make sure there is plenty of fresh water aswell as dry food obviously doesn't have water in it and they will get very thirsty.
