Ernesto is coming and from what it looks like the florida keys will have to evacuate. Im new and never had to worry about hurricanes. If we evacuate I'll have to drive my car while my husband drives his truck...I will have my 10 month old with me by myself. My husband says it takes between 5 and 6 hours to get to the main land from where we live (close to key west) My son is 10 months old and I was wondering if your alloud to put a baby in the front seat if it still faces the rear. My car automatically turns off the air bag if it senses a weight below like 75 lbs but does the law say you cant put babies up front???

that would be fine. i have a old buick century with no air bag and my cop friend said it is fine. it saves me sanity too as i can attend to him quickly when he cries.

Why not consider towing the car with the truck?
The extra fuel used in towing would be less than two burning fuel.

As to the baby seat, call the DMV. You sure don't need a citation in the process of evacuating. Some states permit the seat in the front.

Tow bars can be rented from U-Haul.

i know you are thinking of the baby, and how you will take care of him, and want him next to you, to be able to feed, and talk to him. but....in reality, you should not put him in the front seat. if you think of it this way, you will do what is right. and put him in the back seat, the safest place for him. if you get in a wreck, his chances are much better in the safest place of the car, the back seat. dont take that chance. you may just have to pull over several times to tend to his needs. do your drive around during his nap time too. or...better yet, do it at night, when he is sleeping anyway. good luck! dont take chances with your baby's life ok!

I think your son is better off making the trip in the front seat than staying when this hurricane comes-I heard its going to get quite intense.

If your son can be in the backseat its better-but there will most likely be traffic with everyone leaving and you wont move to fast.

Good luck, Camille
