Publicans = bar owners

And yes I do believe they should complain and be compensated for loss of sales.

i know there is a pub in Arbroath has had to close because of the ban,i think they would have a good chance of compensation,if the pubs can prove a significant loss then why not,Ryanair are claiming millions from the goverment for loss of earnings,so why not publicans after all they introduced the ban.

I was talking to a guy from an area where smoking has long been banned in public places. Can't remember the country. He says business soon picked up again, after a fall off. People go to pubs to drink and socialise. There's no way a little thing like no smoking is going to affect the serious business of the day! It will soon pick up again.

The ban should be lifted, preferably before the England Ban comes into force. Let the public vote with their feet by going to smoking or non-smoking pubs as they see fit.

The times they are a changing.
Pubs, years ago were for men, spit and saw dust.
Now you got women wanting food and no smoking etc.
They only buy half a feckin lager or a coffee
Pubs are for Pi55 heads. if they want food and coffee, let em sod off to a cafe or restaurant.
Thank god the back street boozer still exists
Sorry yes compensated quite right

we have the smoking ban here in ireland and we are use to it now. i dont think the bar owners should get anything out of it. the people can still go out and have a drink and then if they want a smoke go outside the door or to a smoking room for a smoke. then come back in and finish your drinks

Not at all. They're not the first to experience this kind of ban. Everywhere else that it's occurred, somehow the people survived.
