Muslims regularly say that the Bible is full of contradictions. As a Christian I find these verses from the Qur'an and Sunnah contradicting each other. It's as if the Sunnah was written as an after thought.

002.256
Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

Then we have: [3:85] And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers.

A long comes the Sunnah that says: [Sunnah] The Messenger of Allah (saas) said, "One who kills a non-Muslim person under protection (Arabic: dhimmi) will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise."

If the Qur'an is perfect what was the need for Muhammad to write the Sunnah and contradict some of the verses?
Isn't it understandable why many Muslims are not being disobedient but are just confused?

Firstly, U must understand this:

What is Sunnah?
Sunnah (Arabic: سنة‎) means “way” or “custom”, and therefore, the sunnah of the prophet means “the way of the prophet”, or what is commonly known as the Prophet’s traditions. Terminologically, the word ‘Sunnah’ in Sunni Islam means the deeds, sayings and approvals of Muhammad during the 23 years of his ministry, and this means that whatever he did during his ministry as a prophet and messenger of Allah is considered a sunnah, which Muslims received through consensus of companions of Muhammad (Sahaba). In Shiah Islam, the word 'Sunnah' means the deeds, sayings and approvals of Muhammad and the twelve Imams who Shi'a Muslims believe were chosen by Allah to succeed the prophet and to lead mankind in every aspect of life.

LEGALITY of SUNNAH
The Sunnah, therefore, is the second source of Islamic law after the Qur'an, and is incorporated in many books of hadith.
The prophetic example of Sunnah is considered to be obligatory by most Muslims. A few Qur'an Alone Muslims follow only the Qur'an and reject all sunnah and hadith as sources for Divine Guidance or religious law. Many advocates of liberal movements within Islam claim that prophetic sunnah should be followed in matters of ritual and worship, but may be questioned in the case of Islamic law.

SUNNAH & HADDITH
The Sunnah is the way or deeds of Muhammad and validated by the consensus of companions of Muhammad (Sahaba) in Sunni Islam, and the way or deeds of Muhammad and the twelve Imams in Shi'a Islam, while Hadith is a collection of the narrations and approvals. The two words are interchangeable when referring to the Traditions, but actually there is a difference between the two. Hadiths are classified according their status, in relation to their texts (matn) and their chain of transmitters (isnad). Scholars of Hadiths have studied the Sunnah from their context (matn) as well as from their transmitters (isnad) in order to establish what is true and what is false from these hadiths. These were influential in the development of early Muslim philosophy and modern scientific citation.
Through research on the transmitters of Hadith (isnad), scholars of the science of Hadith came up with the system of knowing the different categories of Hadith, and how to evaluate the text (matn) in order to establish if the text is correct, good, weak, or false. There is a tradition both of historical biography (Ilm ar-Rijal) of Muhammad and of validating hadith — isnad or “backing”.

SUNNAH & FIGH

Sunnah must be made distinct from both fiqh, which are opinions of the classical jurists, and the Qur’an, which is revelation, not record. It is one of many terms in Islam which are difficult to translate out of Arabic without loss of meaning. History further complicates the translation since different assumptions about sunnah dominated Islam in past eras.

TRADITIONAL VIEW of PROPHET SUNNAH

Traditional Muslims however, believe that verses such as "A similar (favour have ye already received) in that We have sent among you an Messenger (Muhammad) of your own, delivering to you Our Verses, and purifying you, and teaching you the Book and the Wisdom, and in new knowledge." (2:151) justify the Sunnah. Many of these sunnah had their roots coming from Abraham as it is mentioned in Quran, "and follow the Nation of Abraham, the monotheist, and he was never one of those who set up partners, and God chose Abraham as his friend" (4:125).

Had the Prophet's only role been to deliver the verses, the remaining parts of the verse: "purifying you, and teaching you the Book and the Wisdom..." would not have been there. The traditional view then holds that all the above verses, in which Muhammad's mission is to deliver the message ONLY, INCLUDES his TEACHING the explanation of the Book (the Quran) and the Wisdom behind it, to the people, not just relate the verses of the Quran and leave.

In addition, the verse:"Ye have indeed in the Messenger of God (Muhammad) the best of examples, for any one whose hope is in God and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise and Remembrance of God." (33:21), further emphasizes that Muhammad's example is divinely inspired and to be followed by Muslims.

According to Traditional Muslims, the point being emphasized in the verses quoted by the Quran Alone argument - is that Muhammad is not to be worshipped or deified - and that his role is to deliver the Quran, complete with explanation and guidelines on how to live the Quran - guidelines which have been preserved in his Sunnah.

I HOPE IT HELPS.....

Wassalam......

First verse ("Let there be no compulsion in religion"): When you are in any other religion, for example, are you with Allah or the devil? Yet, I'm not allowed to kill Christians because they say God begot a son (blasphemy, according to the Koran).
Second verse ("Truth stands out clear from Error"):
When Islam comes, you have to follow Allah not the devil. The second verse explains the Prophet's Hadith. If you will note, in Arab countries, for example Egypt, when the Muslims took over, they didn't kill non-Muslims. How many Christians are there still in Egypt and Jordan, or any other Arab country? But look at the Bible (See 2 Chron 9:25 & I Kings 4:26): Soloman had 4 000 stalls (of horses) & Soloman had 40 000 stalls (of horses) - this is a contradiction. However, my favourite verse in the Bible (Lev-11:20) states that 'all fowl that creep, going upon all fours shall be an abomination unto you.' That contradicts real life and the bird kingdom and, if birds could speak, they would tell you that this is not God's word.

First the Quran was passed down to Muhammad (pbuh) from God through the angel Gabriel over 30 years.

While this was happening Muhammad (pbuh) was the spiritual and governmental leader of Medina.

When he was asked to give guidance and sit laws as a man. He would do so with him own interpretation of the Quran in mind. Sometimes Revelation would come to compliment or correct a ruling Muhammad (pbuh) had made.

Muhammad did not write down any of these rulings. After his death these sayings and ruling were collected into books of Hadith. These Hadith are rated for reliability, because they were passed from word of mouth.

The Sunnah does not over ride the Quran but compliments it.

okay, here's the only way i can explain it. whats written in the Qur'an isi n general, like it tells muslims to pray five times a day, but the sunnahs tell us HOW to do it, and tell all the details (what prayers should be read during each rokaah, etc.), and sunnah are divided into many categories, sunnah qouly (based on what the prophet uttered), sunnah fi'liy (based on his habit or what he did) and sunnah taqririy.

not all sunnah is 100% true. some of them are fake and fabricated by people, but it's quite easy to spot a fake sunnah, the one that uttered it mostly has no relation to the prophet or his circle of friends. mostly only to take advantage out of it (eg: a vegetable seller said "The prophet said that aubergine is the medicine of all illness" only to make people buy his vegetables. this kind of sunnah called sunnah maudu (fake)

a sunnah that is 100% accurate is called sunnah sahih.

Muhammad didn't write the Sunnah he was actually illiterate. And even the verses of the Q'uran wasn't "written" by him they just came from his teaching although it was written down right after his death so there wouldn't be any variations to the teachings. As for the contradictions, there is contradictions in every religion. In any rate Islam is the only religion that believes all three Abrahmic religions are all gods chosen people.

who is confuse..???? we are not.

first of all, prophet Muhammad pbuh said that if any hadith contradicts with Quran, we should prefer quran over it.

secondly, [3:85] refers to the event of hereafter and 2:256 refers to this life. In this life ,, there is no compulsion in religion.. its up to the person , that whichever religion he/she selects.. but in the hereafter.. the only religion which is true in the sight of Allah is islam .and all the followers of other religion will go to hell.

its not a contradiction

yes the quran also says that "obey Allah and obey the Messenger" .. in 4:59 .. there are lots of things and aspects of life which cannot be included in one small book.. thats why Muhammad pbuh is our example to lead life.... Quran says to pray.. ,, and how to pray,, we have to refer to actions of Muhammad pbuh.

=======================

"Do they not consider the Qur'an (with care)? Had it been from other Than Allah, they would surely have found therein Much discrepancy." [Al-Qur’an 4:82]

THERE IS NOT A SINGLE CONTRADICTION IN THE QURAN.

HOPE THIS CLARIFIES.

SINCERELY

The holy books are meant for humans with that thinking brains
The problem is, we do not know exactly the real true holy book but books that are well acclaimed by many writers so the many diffrent versions...and many borned beliefs,religions,cults... which confuses the world
follow by the book..you'll always remain bookable
so open your heart and keep searching

You pulling the same stunt of picking and chosing single verses out to twist the meaning of the message, that atheists do to christians. Your mimicking the wrong company. Stop doing this

If your truely interested in the Koran or the Bible. Truely study it. if you find a verse that is confusing or you think contradicts other messages. Research that verse on the Net or ask a preacher. And dont go to a souce that is obviously atheist.

If you need your car fixed you go to a mechanic not a "tree-hugging liberal" because theyll just tell you you shouldnt drive a car.

If you want to learn the Bible you dont go to an atheist because they know nothing about it, but they try to twist its meaning so that they have comfort in their disbelief

Only the Bible is the divinly inspired word of God! I have read it for years and have not found even one contradiction as whilst the Bible had about 40 different writers, it had only one author being the lord himself and being God he has not contradicted himself anywhere. I know the world is full of all sorts of rat bag religions today thankfully Jesus did not come to establish a religon but rather to establish a relationship between God and man. The Bible supports itself with so great a cloud of witness whereas the other so called books of spiritul truth all fall far short as their origin can't be established beyong doubt as they all claim to have been as a result of a vision or similar but only ever seen by one person. When John wrote Revelations, that was the end of all visions etc as the word of God was then complete. Anyone claiming to have had a vision or similar experience since the completion of the Bible should be ignored as we are warned in the Bible to be on guard as not everything that appears to be a miricle is in fact of the Lord as Satan himself can also perform "lieing wonders" so as to decieve those who are not spiritually discerning. A good sound grasp of the Bible would send a wake up call to many who are still "blinded by the God of this world" The only one who ever came back from the dead and testified of the greatness of God was Jesus as he has the power over life and death so where are all these other leaders or Gods which are worshipped?? They are all dead and none of them ever came back from the dead to testify about the goodness of the Father. Little wonder Jesus asked if he would find any faith on the earth when he returned.

Um... its not just Muslims that see contradictions in the bible. Anyone with the ability to read and who hasn't been brainwashed into accepting the bible blindly can see its full of contradictions. No need to single out one religious group.

As for the Qur'an.... there are contradictions in it. And in most holy books of other organized religions. Organized religion is a system with holes in it... no matter which prophet or god or gods they worship. A person who belongs to a religion simply has to reconcile those differences.... or ignore them and do what is best in their lives.

Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.

yes a muslim can leave his faith, ofcourse it is a sin, but u cant kill a man for sin. God is there to deal with the sinner. no human has the right to kill another human if they dont follow the faith.

now dont christians say that non-christians will go to Hell and burn if they dont accept jesus-pbuh? have u heard of this?

Exodus 20:4-6 records the Second Commandment. Here is God’s explicit directive: “YOU SHALL NOT MAKE UNTO YOU ANY GRAVEN IMAGE, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: you shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.”

Then we have: [3:85] And whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he shall be one of the losers.

no God would like it when His creation will worship something else other than Him.

and muhammed-pbuh has said -- 'no man is a beliver until he desires for his brother what he desires for himself'

now as for the sunnah u cited.
A long comes the Sunnah that says: [Sunnah] The Messenger of Allah (saas) said, "One who kills a non-Muslim person under protection (Arabic: dhimmi) will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise."

the verse from Quran will show that Allah condems unnecessary and unwanted fighting and killing in His name as well as in the name of his messenger muhammed-pbuh (verse 32). it also says describes the punishment in Hereafter for such people who kill innocents and cause mischeif in this world (verse 33), be it muslim or who so ever. punishments are sdame for all those who cause misheif on earth.

Al-Maeda | 120 verses | The Table Spread سورة المائدة
Sura #5 | Madina

32 For that cause We decreed for the Children of Israel that whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. Our messengers came unto them of old with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but afterwards lo! many of them became prodigals in the earth.

33 The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. Such will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an awful doom;

muhammed's-pbuh sunnah and Quran has never contradicted. muhammed-pbuh followed what was revealed to him and that which was revealed to those before him (all messengers from Adam to Jesus-pbut).
