Hello,

I am interested in keeping show birds (more like show chickens) but I live in a suburban neighborhood in Phoenix and I was wondering if there are any laws or regulations out there that someone would need to be aware of? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You might want to check with the city code enforcement. If you are within the city limits of Phoenix they may have a restriction on farm animals within the city limits. You can also check with the zoning commission of Phoenix, A lot of times you can not raise farm animals on your property unless you have either a agricultural zoning or a commercial zoning that would accommodate the sale of farm animals. either one or both and you would be able to find your answers. By the way the cities usually do not care if they are show animals or not they will still be considered farm animals.

There would probly only be a problenm if your birds got so dirty you could smell the chicken poop in the air, thats one thing to consider. Another thing is will your nieghbors call the law on you when they hear your roosters crow? Alot of people who are stupid don't appreciate a good crow over and over again all morning long waking them up to get the day started. Plus if you have alot of males then that could be even a bigger problem with roosters fighting all the time and all the loud crows they will set off with each other in the early AM. Think about it and go down to your own CITY HALL and ask for the information you seek on laws in your area. And if you find it ok to own them like that, go ask your nieghbors if theyd have a problem with you owning some chickens, and if they own dogs theres another problem even cats will kill a good chicken for a meal.

I think the limit for keeping chickens in Phoenix is about 100 chickens, but you can also have 25 ducks and 15 turkeys along with not more than 5 goats.

Just don't keep Pit Bulls to train with the chickens and other livestock or you will be in trouble.

If you are Mexican you can keep poultry anywhere you want.
