Why someone answers questions in Religion & Spirituality by saying that people shove religion down their throats? I have had that more than once, so you would think that if they did not want it shoved down their throats, they would stay away from this section, correct? I mean this with every religion..

Great point. I think, deep down, they have a longing and a need to hear more.

Not necessarily. Many people need answers to help them make spiritual choices, i.e.; to believe or not to believe, what to believe, what not to believe, etc... It has been my experience that I have asked some people questions about their particular religion and immediately these people seem to take license and talk on and on and come back again and again, as if I wanted more than the original question answered. Many people are overzealous about their faith and really believe that the more information they give in the least amount of time is going to win over a convert. I have a neighbor who still, after 14 years, leaves his religious pamphlets in my mailbox. He stopped associating with us several years ago when he found we were not interested in his religion. We miss his friendship, but not his witnessing. A lot of religious people seem to be this way. They are very friendly and act as though they are interested in fellowship, that is, until we reject their beliefs. What happens next, and I have had this happen numerous times as we live accross the street from two different churches, is they cool off towards us and move on. So we are still interested in receiving spiritual knowledge, but not when it feels as though it is being shoved down our throats..

Well, it''s like when I asked a question about satanism, and I got multiple responses telling me not to research this. Not an answer, and shoving religion down my throat.

I normally don't respond to religious questions unless science is involved but for you I will make an exception.

I don't cruise the religion areas of Yahoo Answers looking for a fight. I open Answers to it's homepage and read questions gleaned from all areas.

BTW, I am an ordained minister who has gone over to the Atheist's side. I found myself using the Bible to counsel people and was able to direct them as I saw fit depending on what pages I selected for them to read. Just too many contradictions for me.

You are free to present any evidence (not opinions or beliefs) and I will study them carefully. And I won't consider it an attempt to shove anything down my throat.

As I used to say, God Bless...

If religion/atheism wasnt "shoved" then we could still have the discussions.. theres always the spirituality part too...

alot of times people ask questions in which the answer is that religion is being forced, so they answer that wya

Well... I think that everyone must feel free to ask/answer any question about "religion & spirituality" in this section, whether one is a believer or a non-believer.

Personally, participating in this section helps me clarify my own opinions about this topic and to know a bout more about others' beliefs or non-beliefs.

Freedom of speach (insofar as it respects yahoo-rules).

Hey mom
to find the truth, it's always difficult to accept the truth
the messengers were thrown out of their villages
some were even at war to convey the truth
and sadly some was even nailed to the cross
get it!

This section is for asking and answering questions, but not for being obnoxious. There are some who take it too far.

People are looking for something.
We always are.
It's us.
Some have something to share, they look for a place to share.
Some have a need to hear, so they look for a place to hear.
Some have a need to raise their fists in defiance, they look for a place to do it.
So here we are, a family.
But I believe differently than you.
So what.
But I'm a witch--again so what.
But I curse Jesus--again I say so what.
Here we are giving our opinions.
Sharing with one another.
Sometimes even getting angry with one another. Isn't that life????

Because some people love to argue. It is the highlight of their life.
