I'm only 16 years old though, so I have no idea what it could be. The catche is only on one side of my jaw. It used to pop whenever I chewed, and now sometimes whenever I try to open my mouth it just won't open. Does anyone know what it could possible be or what to do?

There's a little bone in between the top jaw and bottom jaw. It's suppose to be fixed but yours isn't. Because it moves, it may "click" when you chew or you may not be able to open your mouth as wide as you'd like on occasion and sometimes, you're jaw can hurt. When I got my braces at 30, the doc put rubber bands in to re-align my jaw to help with this problem. I couldn't get the bands in easily, so I stopped using them. That's the only way I know to fix it.

It sounds a lot like TMJ (as everyone else has also said). There really isn't any cure for TMJ, but there are some easy things you can do to make it a little better. Don't chew gum, and when it gets bad try a warm compress or some Ibuprofen. An orthodontist could fit you with a teeth guard to wear at night, but I've heard those aren't terribly effective. Sometimes stress can make TMJ worse.

I'm not a doctor or anything but it could possibly be a disorder called TMJ. Here is a link with some reference information that might be helpful to you. http://www.tmj.org/basics.asp
But it never hurts to consult a doctor of course. Hope it all works out for you!

I think you have TMJ. You should go to a doctor and get it looked at. I had the same problem and that's what I had. They should give you something to help relieve the problem before they suggest surgery. I wish you the best.

TMJ. Apply warm compress (hot wash cloth). See a dentist; he can provide you w/ an item to wear at night which prevents teeth grinding.

Dentist can tell if anything is misaligned.

Good luck!

Have your parents take you to a doctor or dentist. Sounds like TMJ. Can be very painful.
