I have a Miniature Schanuazer. He is 2 years old and I train him for Agility. I train him from my backyard and we have been doing great until this week. He hasn't been wamting to go over the jump. We will go around the tree like we always do and then run twords the jump, but then he won't jump it he will just come to a hualt right before the jump. I do use treats all different times andthe leash doesn't work. It just makes him refuse more.I really need a experianced dog trainer to help me through this. I also work him two times a day if that helps any.

I'm not a dog trainer but I did agility with my dog. Some of the things my trainer showed to help with jumping was she would start them at a low spot and gradually went higher.

If your dog was jumping and has stopped try to lower the jump again and start over again. Or sometimes it is the treat your giving him, maybe there is something better he would enjoy like a favourite toy to throw after he does what he is suppose to do.

The other thing it could be is a behaveiral problem like adolescence, he could be just seeing if he can get away without doing something he knows you want him to do. Don't be surprised I have seen lots of dogs try this when they're about 12 to 24 months old they're just like teenagers.

Two times a day is alot for any dog, much less a youngster. I would back off to a couple times a week.

I would also drop the jump height way down and work your way back up. Is your dog structurally sound? It could be painful for him to jump his height if he has a structural problem, especially when he is jumping so much. If you do not know, contact a breeder in your area to look him over for soundness.

Agility should be fun! It sounds like you are pretty serious about it. Have fun, being competitive will follow. I really do think you are working him way to hard. Back off to twice a week and then do games a couple times a week, games are good for working on teamwork. There are some good books with games at dogwise.com

well he may be getting abit bored with it. I do agility with my dog and we started with backyard training. I train him 2-4 times a week and that seems to do well. And also try to keep it inseresting like with a toy one day, treats another then for the next do both!
