The only way to permanently get rid of ear mites is to get medication from a vet (don't use the stuff in pet stores -- it doesn't work). However, an 8-week old kitten is probably too young. On a temporary basis you can use a Q-tip dipped in mineral oil (available at a drug store). Check with a vet to see when the kitten is old enough for proper medication. It's important to get rid of them as soon as possible, since they can cause deafness.

Medication prescribed by your vet is the "simplest remedy". Ear mites can be very tough to eliminate altogether, and can actually disfigure the ear. We once took in a stray and called him "Lopi" because he had a lopped ear. We thought it was from frostbite, but it was from earmites (which then spread to our dog). We used the prescribed medication & eventually got rid of them.
Interestingly, the vet mentioned that mineral oil can work too. It suffocates the earmites.

A trip to the vet is in order. They can identify & treat the ear mites and any other problems, as well as giving it it's first annual physical exam at the same time.

Hi there, I think that nomatter what you should take the cat to a vet to get the proper treatments. And when you do get a double dose because with earmites it's not a good idea to take the easy way out. when my cats get earmites they get the treatment 2ice as long. the reason for this is that earmites can migrate to the brain and kill them, this isn't good, and i'm sure that you don't want a dead kitten, most people don't understand the severity of earmites, but when you have seen a cat die from this, with the vet treatments, you take all the precautions needed.

Veterinary meds for the inside, Revolution for the outside. It's a flea preventive that, used regularly, will keep mites under control as well. And they make a kitten formula.

the poor kitty.. ear mites can be so irritable for the poor kitties.
From my experience.. Ivomec (Ivermectin) is the most effective treatment to date. It is now commonly used by vets for the treatment of ear mites in catw(and dogs). TLhis is the same prescription medicine used in monthly heartworm preventative tables for cats and dogs and requires, unfortunately, that you take the kitty to a vet.The two methods of application is either TOPICAL or by injections.

You have to get medication from the vet and it sure is alot of fun putting it into your kittens ears. You have to massage the base of their ears to insure that it goes down in. I'd give it to mine and when I was done she'd shake her head and that stuff would go all over my glasses.

buy mineral oil and put that in the ear regularly with a cotten swab. I do that and none of my pets have ever gotten ear mites.

Take her to the vet to get some medicine. Don't try to do anything without the advice of a vet.
