At one time I had PhotoShop v 5.1 and then I bought a new computer and needed something a bit newer but didn't have the money for PhotoShop so I found a really nice editing program called Paint Shop Pro and have used it ever since... it's a really nice program and has tons of features... and it's only about $75 or less depending on where you buy it.

Adobe makes a stripped down version of Photoshop called Photoshop Elements that's probably what you're looking for. They also have a free program called Photoshop Album.

like everyone else said, Photoshop CS2, but that not really the point since its too expensive (there is alwways the possiblity to pirate it). But Photoshop Element is an good alternative. Fireworks is also pretty good. If you want free software then there is the Gimp for the Amateur.

There is a small version of photoshop called Photoshop Elements. It's only a hundred bucks or so, and it works great if you're not doing anything too extensive.

lol, Everybody likes photoshop but it's unfair, Adobe wants to eat a lot and get Fat so Charging 694$ For Photoshop Cs2 c'mon That's too much...... better use Trial Version!
Photoshop Cs2 - http://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/photoshop/win/cs2/Photoshop_CS2_tryout.zip
http://files.9down.com:8080/Adobe.PhotoShop.CS2.KeyGen-PANTHEON.rar
(This will activate your Photoshop at 0$ which is also unfair in this case Adobe isn't eating at all)

I love MS Digital Image. It is easy to use with good instructions and does all you could want. If you buy the older version, it is cheap.
