don’t confuse caring with fed up with hypocritical, self righteous, judgmental, sanctimonious, antiquated thinking people

well, when you say atheists, you obviously mean all atheist..but just like christians not all atheists act completely alike
as for why put such a focus on christianity..well..um if you haven't noticed, chrisitainity is the religion of the majority..at least in the U.S.....and at least for now....also. .when was the last time you saw a buddhist arguing....and now when was the last time you saw a christian arguing?
plus most christians (notice the use of the word "most") ....take on the "more righteous than thou" attitude..esp around atheists..so its easy to get defensive..when you have a christian or group of christians...basically condemning you...
as for "y dont they mind their busines and let us belive what we want, like we let them belive what they want?" ..well let me just say...... LMAO.....
oh yeah..um "how come they read the bible so much"....well again can't really answer that..b/c i don't speak for all atheist....but personally i think it would be kind of ignorant of someone to say something is not real or that they don't believe in something, while not really knowing what that "something is about" i guess that doesn't work the other way around..it seems to me that, for most people...esp. people of the Christian faith...its easy to say "I'm a Christian" and yet not know a thing about the Bible ..besides John 3:16...

and way to go w/the "maybe they should b called Jesus haters instead?" ...very original....nicely thought out...

I think it stems from the perception that the vocal christians have a narrow view of the world. So many times I have been told to go to the nearest (insert any local church) and get saved. Christians have to know how annoying this is. It is just like one our camps vocal idiots that tell chritians that they are brainwashed. (I compare them as the same, one say I am going to suffer eternally and the other says that you have misguided belief. I guess they are not the same) It is on my money (in god we trust) it is my pledge of allegience and it somehow seperates me from my seperated church and state country. We bring up other religions on our discussion because it seems that a lot of christians have left them out. I think there is enough if this in the world and faiths will have to start leaving room for the others because killing the other faiths haven't seemed to work in the last 5 or 6 millenia. I think it is awsome that christians have found the path to truth that they are looking for. I offer that praise to all religions. However, your respective creators and dieties did not embue me with that kind of blessing. People find Mohamed and Jesus and Budha and it seems to be a little regional if you ask me. I think they have neighborhoods. So I think it would be a little simplistic to say I just haven't found faith yet. Maybe there is enough room on earth for all of us and let our respective gods sort out what happens afterwards. Oh yeah, PS. leaving scripture as a tip at a resturaunt in the USA is NOT exceptable. (another example of what atheists are talking about.

Okay, your just ridiculous with your question, just FYI. It would take a bible toting fool like you to definately ask this sort of question in this way. Oddly, I am not an Athiest, but my husband is. I think you knew the answer to your question before you even answered it, but I'll gladly oblige you. You see, the difference here is this:
Christians aren't all innocent like you say. They picket outside government instituions, they riot, they blow up buildings, and purposely hurt people...for their "beliefs." So how does that make what they are doing okay?? When's the last time you saw a group of Athiests blow up a public building? Or car bomb an innocent nurse or doctor? They do these things outside places like abortion clinics and research facilities. Regardless of WHY they do it...do you honestly think God is up there, watching what's going on down here thinking, "Hey, they're killing people, they're ruining the lives of innocents, but it's all good, cause they're faithful to me, so we'll call it even." HELL NO. When it all comes down to it, if Christians would practice what they preach, the world would be a better place, not a judgemental, hypocritcal, piece of trash that's run by selfish jerks who don't do what's best for everyone.
And just as a side note...you need to look more into Athiesm before posting something like this, cause if you did, you'd probably know how to spell "why", and you'd have the answers to most of these questions. Just a suggestion.

I tried to figure out why and came up with this as a possible explanation.

They think they know something that would make everyone else wrong, and for the sake of having an analogy it would be the equivalent of knowing that the world is actually round (when everyone thought it was flat). Since they think everyone else if completely wrong and they are right, if they determine it is an important issue (some don't, I'm not talking about them) they try and convince everyone that they are wrong. After all, if everyone thought the world was flat and you knew it was round, wouldn't at least some of you try to convince everyone else? I am not atheist so I can't be sure, but that is my guess.

As for why they single out Christians, I'm not sure on that one either, not being an atheist, but this is my best guess. I would say that it is because Christians tend to try and spread their religion more often and more fervently than other religions in an attempt to save everyone's souls. Most other religions that I know anything about either believe in reincarnation or don't believe that anything as bad as going to hell will happen to you if you are a non-believer. As that is the case with most religions, there isn't as much reason to try and convert others because nothing will happen if they don't.

Cleveland *** Terry, what are you talking about? I see Koran quotes all the time and have seen some other religious quotes as well, but they are definitely not as common.

e You're wondering why atheists bash the believers so much. Okay I'll tell you some of the reasons. Number one - - because some like you are forever bashing atheists. Read your statement, then tell me you're not an atheist basher.
Number two - - - many religious people think it's their duty to bring people into the fold. They get darn persistant, and really annoying.
Number three - - - religious people think that they know the truth, and anyone who disagrees with them will surely end up in hell. Somehow they can't believe that a life in hell might be preferable to having to spend eternity surrounded by religious fanatics.

Some atheist challenge Christians because some Christians insist on preaching to everyone, regardless of their faith. Sometimes I, as an atheist, feel like Christianity is being shoved down my throat. People of other religions do not seem to try as hard a Christians to convert people. And by the way...it is the 8 fold path to enlightenment.
Why do atheist's read the bible? We don't have to. There are many Christians who will tell us about it whether we want to hear it or not.

What makes you think they don't ask the other religions? To be athiest one had to have gone out and searched the other religions aswell or you just screwed yourself over. To many of them however Christianity is the reason they are athiest. And Most Christians WILL try to convert you or tell them they are going to hell. No other person of another religion have ever told me that. But christians seem to at every turn.

Why do we care? Please - PLEASE, watch the following -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4fQA9mt-Mg

Atheists care because religios people make it a point to push their silly beliefs on EVERYONE. Remember, this country wasn't founded on Christian principles nor was it meant to be "one nation under god". The founding fathers were against being associated with one specific religion. It wasn't until the 50's and 60's that ONE NATION UNDER GOD and all of that were added to the Pledge and our currency.

It's a fact that, as an atheist, I cannot run for elected office in a number of states (it's in their constitutions).

That the Christian agenda is being pushed by this country and that tax money is paying for it. MY tax money.

How can I mind my own business when YOUR beliefs are being PUSHED on me.

Watch the video.

maybe its because (at least in this public forum) you dont get people throwing quotes from the koran or the teachings of muhammed thrown out at you. its nothing but catholics, christians and baptists asking thier religious "questions", which usually just end up being a statement of "if you dont believe in my religion, you aren't sh*t to me." a lot of atheists, such as myself, were brought up in a religious setting and have read the bible and know about the workings of the catholic/christian/bible thumping church. the reason we get angry is because while you say that you'll "let us believe what we want just as you do" you spit your beliefs in a PUBLIC FORUM, views that basically belittle non-followers. i'm not saying you in particular...you are actually thoughtful. a "true christian." i respect your question. its your "allies," if you will, that i have a problem with. if you dont want angry messages dont post bible verses and "why aren't you catholic" questions.

i dont hate jesus. jesus was hatin' on me. you can't hate the player, JC...you gotta hate the game.

To acknowledge another religion or any type of God or higher form of being is not atheism. A true atheist does not get into the religion battle because he or she doesn't acknowledge it. If an atheist is against any type of religion they are totally misled on the meaning of atheism. They are just whining. A true atheist is not concerned with anything dealing with religion or belief. So therefore they have no argument on anything. If they do have an argument they cannot consider themselves atheist!!
