My grand mother on my mothers side is from the island of Lemnos Greece. She left property there when she left for the USA and I am trying to locate who and how to verify its location and registry if any to legally sell it for my mother or possibly retire there myself. The only t hing we know is the name of the town its in, but no one seems to know its exact location on the island. I need some help on advice and possible contacts that could help with finding out more info before I make the trip over. I do not speak Greek and my mother is too old to make the trip. This subject has been on her mind for 75 years and I would like to finalize it for ASAP. There has been some contact about it in the past several years from a friend she had over there but the friend has since passed and we do not know who to contact on the island. We need email or name of help on island of Lemnos. Thanks for any help.

The US Embassy in Athens has a list of Greek attorneys who speak English and are willing to work for Americans. Most of them are very familiar with property claims and disputes. There isn't one listed for Lemnos, but if you tried one on a nearby island they could either help you themselves, or give you a contact on Lemnos who could. Good luck!

Try to find a real este person who is fluent in Greek and English, and he also knows the land in question....he should be able to find someone himself or someone he knows who can do a land title search...Determine who is the rightful owner of the land...and then take it from there...if you are the rightful heirs to her estate, then you should be able to have the land transferred into your name.

Your grandmother may owe so much in taxes on the property that the government has probably reposessed and auctioned it. 75 years is a long time...
