I am flying into LAX from England on the 21st of Sept, and want to surprise my wife at work, as she isn't expecting me till beginning of Oct. What is the cheapest way for me to get to Lomita, considering I will have 3 large cases with me?

Lomita is in the South Bay area near Torrance. I agree with the previous poster that SuperShuttle is the best way to go. It is not, however, the cheapest. Possible alternatives include (1) an MTA bus from LAX south on Figueroa through the beach cities (check mta.net); or (2) connecting to Torrance Transit from either the Green Line (if Torrance Transit goes there) or the Blue Line (either Artesia Station or the Long Beach Transit Mall). The Green Line and Blue Line are safe light rail trains, operated by MTA, that are easily accessible from LAX via free shuttle from the airport terminals to the Aviation station.

You'd have to do some research on Torrance Transit; it will get you close to Lomita, but I'm not sure just how close.

Either of those possibilities (MTA bus or light rail) would be considerably cheaper than SuperShuttle, but I'd still go with SuperShuttle if I were you. On the other hand, the alternatives warrant investigation, because you might be surprised to find a very good connection at low cost.

You should definitely go to mta.net. They have a lookup feature where you specify your starting and ending locations, and they tell you how to get there using public transportation.

(Another possibility is to contact Lomita City Hall and ask them. You can probably find them on google.)

It would be an expensive cab ride, especially since you will probably get hit with an excess baggage surcharge. Best way will be to use a service out of LAX called Super Shuttle. You just walk out to the curb with your bags and find a Super Shuttle pickup point, and tell the dispatcher where you are going. Any skycap or airport security person can probably point you to the nearest SuperShuttle pickup.

The dispatcher will put you into a van with 3-4 other passengers all going the same direction, and one at a time you will each be taken straight to the door of your destination like in a taxi, but only charged a fixed fee for your trip (plus a tip for the driver, usually at least $2 per bag). No need to study maps and try to figure out where you are going. It's essentially an easy way of sharing transportation for longer distances that are not practical for taxis (which covers most of LA!).

Taxi Taxi Taxi Taxi Taxi
Bus will take forever and you do not want to have to lug those bags on the bus. Bus is cheaper but not worth it. IF you decided for the bus it's www.mta.net

RATES
$38.00
–– Flat rate per trip (group) in either direction for trips between LAX and Downtown

Take the cab downtown and then a bus to Lomita

Walk!

Just kidding, if you know the city a rental is usually cheaper than a taxi, and you set the schedule. Next cheapest is the shuttle or hotel transport and lastly a taxi.
