I have never found a good home remedy for toothache. But I really suggest he get to the dentist if possible because it may be caused by an infection.

I am in the process of a horrible toothache myself but you can lessen the pain by taking a couple of tylonal (or advil, asparin, whatever you use for headache or pain. brew a cup of tea (Good strong tea, leave the tea bag in) slowly drink the tea holding the tea in your mouth a few secounds before swollowing, this is as good, in my opinion as the warm salt water remedy, which is also good. you can also take the tea bag out of the water and squeeze the excess water out and place the tea bag directly on the troubled tooth, there is something in tea, tannic acid that toughens up the gums and acts like a "number" you can also take an asparin and place it on the tooth too., until it desolves. It helps to be in a reclined position , prop your head up with pillows , make sure , even though it may hurt, to brush your teeth softly and use a full strength antiseptic mouth rinse several times a day to keep bacteria out of the sore tooth. avoid any cold drinks. even breathing with your mouth open can cause the tooth to throb with the intake of air. I sympathize with you, and believe me I tried it all . If you want to resort to an over the counter remedy Oragel medicated toothache swabs have given me relief too, they look like cotton buds(Q-tips) you snap the tip off and swab the other end that has a measured amount of novocaine in it to the bad tooth , good luck.

Put an aspirin on the gum above the offending tooth - not Tylenol, Excedrin. Motrin - Just plain old aspirin which is water soluable. It will melt and take some of the pain away as well as prevent infection until you can get to a dentist.

Aspirin or ibuprofen for the swelling and ache. I trust Ambesol if the toothache is caused by something on the outside. If the ache is originating on the inside or above the tooth area, go to an ER, they will give him something and he should get to a dentist ASAP. GL

Alleve!!!!! I swear my tooth was beginning to abcess, up until i got my root canal 2 days ago, i put it off for months actually because the alleve (Naproxen Sodium) worked so good [yes, stupid i know] I mean my whole nerve in my molar was exposed and everything. granted it will take 40 mins. give or take before it starts to work its magic, just have him lay on a couch with his head very elevated [to stop the blood rushing to the head, therefore causing the throbbing sensation.] and just stay with him don't make him talk or nothing. If he smokes try not to let him until after alleve kicks in. and above all else, use some common courtesy, [not saying that you don't, i mean its pretty nice you're looking this up for him] but if you're trying to get him to not smoke, eat or drink anything until he feels better, than you don't do it either, cause then he may want to, you know what i mean? anyway, if he's laying down in bed right now, and he probably is, get him up RIGHT NOW, before you get the Alleve, cause that throbbing is probably killing him. let me know how this works for you guys. because i do feel for you, toothaches suck butt!!!

Try rinsing with peroxide. It worked good for me. I was told your not supposed to do it to often but that once or twice a day wouldn't hurt. but only for a few days. If it isn't better after 2 or 3 days Quit the peroxide a see a dentist.

Yes, take an aspirin and put between your teeth on top of the bad tooth and let it dissolve. Tastes awful but it kills the pain.
