The best place to start is to take classes from a reputable teacher. If you are in a big city such as LA, NY, Chicago there are many. Google-acting teachers. Look into different techniques as well. The Meisner technique is a great place to start. LA has Lot's of great teachers. There is also a theater bookstore called Samuel French Bookstore that you can get a lot of great books on acting. I think they have a website. No matter where you live you can learn to act. School, college, local acting teacher, books. The more classes you take the better you will become and the more you know yourself the more you will be able to draw from your own experiences. Oh also if you get the Bravo channel start watching" Inside the Actors Studio" It's a great show that interviews actors for actors. Lot's of A list actors are on and it's done in a class room style format. I think you can learn a lot from what actors who have already made it can tell you. Worth seeing!
Start reading as much as you can. Read monologues, audition for community theater even if it's just as an extra. Being around the theater will give you confidence and expose you to new things and people. It will also ready you more for television and film. There is a different discipline involved working in theater. People watch in your spare time, look at human behaviors, be curious about people and why they do what they do, mimic walks, speech, facial expressions. Be an observer of life.
The main thing to always remember is that actors LISTEN first then react. Start honing your listening skills now and have fun. Acting is amazing. Also remember it's called show business because it's about 10% show and 90% business. Get smart on the business end of things too. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

Interesting question. You need to have relaxed and supple instruments -- your body, your voice, and access to the full range of emotional expression that is possible. If you already have a talent for storytelling, an expressive face, a resonant and lovely voice, all that will help. Most important is to get good training as well as a good education. Acting takes smarts. Acting takes courage. Acting takes a lot of hard work. And there are not always opportunities to work. Read out loud every day. And, if you are serious, break a leg.

*It is nearly essential to be fairly attractive.
*Nearly essential to be fit
*Must have at least some talent (something many actors/actresses out there seem to be have precious little of, sadly)
*NEED an agent/agency
Get yourself an agent. Search under Google or Yahoo for talent agencies in your area. Call or email them and make an appointment. They will be able to properly assess your talent and looks and get you an agent if they think you have a shot. From time to time they will call you (if they accept you) with auditions for jobs. These do not guarantee you will get the jobs!! Agents find opportunites; you must do the rest and impress the casting agent. They will also give you tips on how to compose yourself/dress yourself etc. for the audition.
Good luck!

You have to be very good in acting. Somebody should take a video of you with different acting scenes like crying, having a breakdown, pretending you got shot and you do the acting. It's up to you how good you are to play a scene. Make several copies and send them to Hollywood Producers. I don't believe you have to be good looking or fit. Just look at Rosanne.
