I have a small dining room too.- it's 9 x 10. I have an L-shaped living/dining room. My hutch is in my living room. I purchased a 36x60 retangular table with 2 leaves that can open as wide as 84" to seat 12. I feel like it's too cramped.

I put my 60- inch round table that seats 4-6 in my DR. It looks much better on an everyday basis.

When we have company, we just eat in my kitchen which is 12 x 20. We are not as cramped.

However, I wish I had gone with what a designer suggested for my small dining room. Purchase a drop leaf table that expands and get 6-8 chairs. Put the extra chairs in another room or in the corners of the same room. Hind sight ,they say, is 20/20.

Good luck.

I would go for a round table with 2 or 3 chairs. It's not that bad and you can put a colorful table cloth over it and placemats and it will look really cute! don't forget the flowers in the middle! And don't make it a huge table either! Or if you don't like round tables i know they are having a sale at peir 1 this weekend and they have small high up dining tables they are dark wood and they have like 3 barstools that come with them and if you ever move into a bigger space it has an extension for the middle and an extra stool!

It depends on the wall space. If you have two adjacent walls, then a corner (L-shaped) would work well, or a rectangle that can be pushed against one wall. Round or oval will take up more space but you can usually get more people around it. I have a small kitchen with two walls that form a corner. I use a rectangular table that has sides that can be pushed in or pulled out, depending on how big I want the table to be. A drop leaf is good for a small kitchen too.

I'd go for a round one that seats 4 if the dining area is small.

I suggest that if you are not going to take the table outside to use a tablecloth, you should not expose yourself to the stain inside
