It takes some work but usually they pickup it up pretty fast. First you need a crate (which means crate training) if you do not want to crate them, for awhile you will need to restrict the puppy to areas. Puppies go a lot their bladders are still developing so you usually need to take them out frequently especially after eating and drinking, play time and sleeping. They really do learn through repetition so I always used the same door so they would learn to go to that door when they wanted out. Also ALWAYS highly praise them when they go in the right area. Dogs usually like to please and they need to know whats right and wrong. When mine had an accident they got a stern "NO or BAD' and they were then brought to the right area. Never did I hit them. I always had the grass scented potty pads which were in my puppies play area and also had purchased a spray, one for inside that was a deterrent and one for outside that was some scent that they would pee. Both worked well. My seven week old lab puppy had it down in less than a week. By then he sit by the door and the only accidents he had were because I slacked off.

I trained my cocker mix by repetition. He was in a cage at night and as soon as I got up or him sometimes. I would say to him "Go to the door." Then show him where the door was, put his leash on and take him out. I did this everytime and he was house trained very quickly. When he went out and did his business I praised on the spot with the usual Good Boy. Oh and don't do the put the nose into the pee or poop thing. Just show them and say "No, go to the door and take him outside."

Take your dog out as soon as you wake up in the morning, give him/her praise when he/she does the good deed. Generally puppies can go in hours the number of months they are in age (I read this in a dog magazine), so if your dog is 1 month try letting him out once every hour and so on...it takes a puppy's bladder time to develop. If you are not home during the day the best thing to do is to crate your dog as they do not go potty where they sleep. If you get a crate that is too big for them they might go in the crate.

in my experience the best way to train a puppy is by crating them when they are inside and as soon as they wake up take them outside to do their business. Most dogs will not urinate or defecate where they sleep and don't forget lots of positive rewards ie: praising, patting even a small treat for good behaviour.

at 3 months a domestic dog could have the skill to hold its bladder for a million hour in keeping with each and each month it particularly is previous. so 3 months=3hrs 5months=5hrs until one 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. Take it out stunning after it eats and each half-hour to an hour. doggies do no longer sniff for a niche...they only circulate. quickly the domestic dog will learn the place to circulate and you will start up seeing a sniffing trend start up. This takes time a sufferers. are not getting mad on the domestic dog. Its basically doing what it understand to do. in case you get mad and by using it outdoors it is going to start to think of that going out is a punishment, and not "ask" to circulate out. you ought to use the artwork NO to startle the domestic dog yet do no longer scold. What I easily have carried out became to attraction to close a small Christmas bell down by using the floor and as quickly as I take the domestic dog out I ask "you pick to circulate outdoors" and basically until now I placed her out...I rang the bell. Took some month yet now, whilst she has to circulate out she makes use of her nostril to ring the bell and that i enable her out....it somewhat is rather cool.

i used the pads that you can buy and also the spray, i sprayed it on the pad in a big circle, every time i put the pad down and my dog just knows to go on it.
the spray apparently smells like pee so that is why they would know to go on it
good luck
