Kitchens and bathrooms, definitely.
Even something as simple as a fresh coat of paint or upgraded faucets can mean an easier time selling your house.
However, if your kitchen/bathroom is really old or dated, you may want to consider replacing fixtures, appliances, or cabinetry. I don't know what sort of a budget you have for this project, but 99% of the time, whatever money you put into upgrading a kitchen or a bathroom, you get back when the house is sold.
Also, a previous poster mentioned curb appeal - definitely something to look into - a nice yard makes your house that much more inviting, and plants are pretty cheap! :)

Everything in todays market. but 3 right off the bat. In the following order.
1. Curb appeal, if it doesn't look good from the car they may not even get out to look.
2. Kitchens, nice appliances, flooring, cabinets and counters. This is a room that a great deal of time is spent and everyone wants NICE KITCHENS.
3. Bathrooms, everyone wants nice bathrooms.

Definitely curb appeal ... This is the first impression a person gets .. So basic landscaping , front doors , clean looking ... Then inside , Wood floors in the halls , kitchen , and ceramic in the baths ... Counter tops are expensive but should be fresh . .. The term updated is use often but is hardly an update , just changed a person make to call a house their home

like everyone is saying, clean and well functioning kitchens and bathrooms are important, a potetial buyer is already worried about decorating the place, so the do not want to have to fix things too. Some new light fixtures and faucets are well worth the expense

Definitely the kitchen. People want big kitchens with islands. Some people even break through to the next room for more space.

Kitchen and bathrooms if you want to put some money into it. If not, paint and carpet are essential. Declutter as much as possible and get rid of as much as you can, even furniture. Less is more.
