Your metabolism is determined by many factors.Anabolism is definitely not a metabolic function as one person suggests.Your metabolic rate is increased by exercise, what you eat,how often you eat and your lean body mass.exercise definitely increases your metabolic rate as does the amount of muscle you have. Also the function that you're thinking of may be thermogenisis which ceases soon after finishing an aerobic exercise but can remain up to 15 hours after anaerobic exercise(weight lifting etc).Catabolism is the process of muscle wasting which can occur if you consume too little protein or just too few calories.I'm not sure why you'd like to reduce your metabolic rate unless you're trying to gain weight in which case you must consume more calories than you burn and the addition of a weight training program. If you're trying to lose weight then you must eat more often(6-8 times a day) but eating much smaller portions.Half hour of jogging a week will probably have zero impact on your metabolism. If you meant to ask how to INCREASE your metabolic rate then send me a message and I'll reply back

Starting out your metabolism will not stay up for more than 24 hours. The longer you exercize the more it adjusts. The more active a person is the longer the metabolism works. It takes about a month to re-regulate your system. If you continue to exercize it continues to regulate. If you stop, it stops. Good luck. Nana

The more and the more regularly you excercise the longer you can extend that amount of time. Your body gets used to being in that zone and will be a fat burning machine. A person who seldom excercises will get benefit but won't get that extra few hours of free fat burning time!

Metabolism is composed by two processes: anabolism and catabolism. What you need is to reduce anabolism and speed up catabolism. Eat low calorie food and start moving to burn those nasty calories.
