Go to google.com in images. There is a good photo of Jackie Kennedy in her reserved, 60's style bouffant as well as of the more elegant full bouffant.

Look up 60's hairstyles cos the bouffant was big in the 60's. Lots of backcombing and just generally BIG hair.

I've always seen them as totally up, but the bouffant style is the puffy top of the hair do.
