Excellent question and I'm glad you brought it up.
First I would like you to read an answer of mine on the term infidel, which is actually misquoted from the Arabic word Kafir. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aiq1MS8o3Sm5qZdcYx63l87sy6IX?qid=20060814095338AAcV5R9
You'll have to scroll down a little.
After you've read that you already have an understanding of what a true kafir is and why that person is destined and deserving of hellfire, and that it does not mean that all non-Muslims will be a resident of hell.
What Islam teaches is that what helps you to attain heaven are what you did with the health, wealth and knowledge God blessed you with, and more importantly what your intentions were behind those deeds. Obviously someone donating $1000 so he can gain popularity doesn't have good intentions. Although it is said in the Quran that the only religion that will be accepted from us is Islam, it does not mean directly that all Muslims will attain heaven, and all non-Muslims will be cast into the fire. There are good non-Muslims and there are evil Muslims, and God knows best who belongs in which category. Carrying the title of Muslim or Christian or Jew or Atheist or Agnostic or Pagan or Hindu or Buddhist does *not* guarantee a seat in either eternities, it is just as you said, sincerity, good deeds and intentions.

Allah does not force anyone to submit to Him. He has layed out a clear path and then made it known to them the two ways (Heaven or Hell). The person is always free to make his or her own choice. There is not complusion in the way of "Islam." Whoever choses to worship Allah without partners and is devoted to Him and is obeying His commands as much as possible, has grasped the firm handhold that will never break. Whoever denies God and choses some other way to worship or not to believe at all, for them there is an eternal punishment that is most horrible (Hell).
All religions originated with Allah and then people began to add or take away from the teachings so as to take control over each other. Man made religions are an abomination before the Lord and will never be accepted. He will only accept true submission, obedience and in purity and peace to His commandments
“This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.”

As far as I know, it is extremely easy to sin in Islam, but their God forgives easily as well. If you ask for forgivess, Allah will give forgiveness.
However, I have been told by a Muslim that at least for him, he believes those who are good people will get into Paradise, and those who are evil will go to hell.
As long as your good deeds out weigh the evil deeds, one will be accepted into Paradise. A False Religion? Are you speaking of the terrorists? I believe they are brainwashed people who believe they are doing good deeds.
I'm not sure if Muslims believe in a purgator (a place a soul goes to live until Judgement Day where they may think about their sins and clean their souls) but if they do, then perhaps those who follow a False Religion based on Islam will go there after they die, and then possibly into Paradise.

I have been reading about Islam for time now and that question came to my mind, and for a while it blocked me from going on,then i finally found an answer that is right for me and that is that the holy Quran may be interrpreted in many ways just as the Holy Bible ,I was reading an english version , the best way to understand the meaning would be in Arab language, but putting all that apart , I feel that God is great and is one , and knows exactly what we have in our hearts, whether we are Muslim or other , its our actions that count in the end, we are not at fault if we were born into another faith, but we must try to search for the truth, and lead our lifes in the right manner.Thats what i truely believe. I am going to tell you this, only because I feel I need to:
I dont believe in jesus, but i do believe in God. I dont go to church or temple or anything like that. Organized religion is not for me. I want to worship my God as I see fit to me. It is my right as an American Citizen to do so. There is no false religion there is no true religion. It is what ever you want it to be. How many churches can one person go to before you do start getting brainwashed by it all. Not me. Since I believe this, the answer to your question would be, Yes. He would forgive him.

In my opinion there is no paradise and the belief that it exists is preventing any serious effort to improve earth. But from a religious perspective I'm pretty sure following a false religion is pretty high on Allah's list of no-nos.

St. Matthew 15:12-14
12) Then came his disciples and said unto him, Knowest thou that the pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
13) But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
14) Let them alone: they be leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
So if any person is not sincere enough to search their religion to see if it is of God; then their faith lies in their own hands.
St. Matthew 7:21
21) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. I pray for you. Amen
I pray that you read St. Matthew 15:1-11

There is no false religion, we all believe in the same God, Allah and God are the same, as every Religion including the Jewish religion believe in Abraham and the old testament, so therefore the only difference is, Jews are still waiting for the Messiah,
Christians received their Messiah in Jesus Christ and Islam
received the second Messiah in Mohamed.

On Judgment Day (Qiyahmah) God/Allah will judge a person's heart.
The two Fox News journalists kidnapped by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza two weeks ago have been freed. They said they were forced to convert to Islam, "but it was only because they had the guns."
The two are 60-year-old Steve Centanni and his 36-year-old cameraman Olaf Wiig of New Zealand. They were both seen on a seconds-long video immediately after being freed; Centanni appeared tearful and very emotional, while Wiig was seen running towards and up a set of stairs and appeared angry. They are reportedly in the Beach Hotel in Gaza City.
Because of taqiyyah and nifaq, a Muslim will not merely accept an affirmation that a person accepts Islam. Taqiyah (lying to safeguard Islam) is what Muslims do when they are in danger. The prime reason for taqiyah is that a person may say something with his lips but have Islam in his heart. The opposite is nifaq (hipocrisy) to say with ones lips that he accepts Islam and say the creed (shahada) "I believe there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger" but in his heart he does not believe in Islam. That is why a person who claims to be a Muslim will not be believed. It is only a first step.
A person must accept the Qur'an as his holy book. During the journey to heaven (miraj)Muhammad was appointed by Allah to bring the Qur'an to mankind. A person must learn the Qur'an in Arabic. A person must submit totally to Allah and pray 5 times per day in a prescribed way. A person must try to get others to convert. A person must contribute money to Islamic charities.
Now when everybody else converts or feels sufficiently subdued to pay the submission tribute (jizyahz) a caliphate can be established and everyone can live peacefully happily ever after in perpetual utopia.
Jihad. If the whole world has not submitted to Islam, after your faith is stronger you may be asked to participate in converting others or eliminating them. This is jihad in the cause of Allah. Do you know how to make a bomb? If you strap one to your chest, go into a crowded place with infidels and eliminate them by exploding the bomb, you will wake up in paradise. This is the true believer - mumin (mumeen). If you do not want to die you can contribute money.
To understand the verse below there are some Arabic words and phrases that are difficult to translate:
Mumin (true Muslim believer)
mujahid (a mumin who fights in jihad fee sybil Allah)
jihad fee sybil Allah (the struggle in the cause of Allah against the infidels roughly - but inaccurately -translated in English as holy war)
qaad - sedentary people
Here are two English translations:
Qur'an Sura Al-Nesã´ 4:95
Those of the believers who sit at home, excepting the disabled ones, and those who strive in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their persons, are not equal. Allah has exalted in rank those who strive with their wealth and their persons above those who sit at home. And to each Allah has promised good. And Allah has exalted those who strive above those who sit at home, by a great reward - (Sher Ali translation)
The two are not equal: those who sit at home (and do not join the fighting) _ unless they have a reason; they are handicapped _ and those who strive hard in the path of Allah with their wealth and lives. Over those who sit at home, Allah has excelled and elevated to a higher honor those who strive hard with their wealth and lives. Compared to those who sit at home, Allah will award a far greater reward to those who wage a struggle. (Munir Munshey translation)

You might want to read the Islamic concept of Al-Taqiyah to infiltrate and destroy kafir countries by Dr. Walid Phares. Taqiyah is done to prevent the new converts from seeing the real face of Islam; at least until their faith or mental conditioning is strong enough to make them turn against their own country and people.
