Cats! Without a doubt, they are the funniest, cutest, softest, most adorable creatures to have as pets

Dogs - they are more loyal and dependant on you, yes they make take up more time requiring walks etc but a cat only really comes to you for dinner & if you are lucky affection/play. Cats are so independent if you left them to their own devices they can find 10 more homes/places to get food and affection & if the grass is greener on the other side you won't see for days on end or perhaps ever again!

Dogs can also be protective over you & your family and your property which is always useful in deterring potential burglers and attackers.

Dogs can be v.playful more than cats.

Dogs can be kept clean much easier as they are domesticated and more house bound than cats - you never quite know where your Cat has been and what it has been up to (rummaging dustbins and then jumping on your lap when you are sitting on the sofa -nice).

Dogs are always pleased to see you and will usually greet you whole heartedly, some cats are just not around when you come in from work.

I do like cats sometimes they can be more affectionate than dogs overall I prefer dogs.

It depends. If you have the time - and need the exercise - a dog is a great pet. I had one.

Right now, however, I have a cat. I work looong hours, and I live all alone with my cat - that situation would definitely not be nice to a dog. And the thought of going for a necessary walk with a dog after 14 hours at work is... unattractive.

My vote would be "both" - with a slight current preference to cats.

Dogs for sure as they are cute and loyal! Too many people are allergic to cats, me included. I'm sure cats are trying to take over the world. There is something alien about them and they shouldn't be trusted. And I hate how many cat owners allow their cat to walk all over the kitchen surfaces even after the cat having just pawed it's cat litter which is reeking of cat waste. But the owner will still insist that cats are clean!! Where's the logic in that. You don't get your dogs walking up there.

NEITHER!!! Both are wonderful. It's a matter of the pet owners personality, not any short-coming in the animal. If you are gone from home more often and longer, and want a more independent animal, then a cat is better for you. If you want a pet you can take here and there in your car or the park, but definitely needs more attention, then go for a dog.

Both make equally good companions. If you want a pet you have to weigh up the pros and cons. Both are destructive, unless you get an older, well trained dog. Are you out at work most of the day? Then cats are better, they are more independant. Both are affectionate, intelligent and fun. It depends on the individual and what you prefer!

Dogs, Dogs and more Dogs! Dogs rule!!! Ever see how they greet you when you are back home! Beat out the blues with their love and compassion. Dogs are also very intelligent which is why they are used as the K-9 unit ( sniff out drugs in the airport, lead you to killers or kidnapped victims ), they help the handicapped, they can sense when the next attack is coming for people with epilepsy, they help the blind they are great companions to young ones. This beats it all they are so smart they can hit the 911 in case of emergencies and save lives.......so I say this again DOGS RULE!!

i personally prefer dogs but i own 2 dogs and 3 cats but dogs are more fun as the cats are not seen very much as they live outside and can wander wherever they like.

For ME, cats, because I don't have to worry about running home to let them outside to go do their business, they aren't as needy as dogs, and if I want to go away for the weekend, I don't have to kennel them. Just make sure I put an auto feeder/waterer out and make sure their boxes are completely clean before I leave.
I LOVE dogs (used to have a greyhound), but it's too much responsibility for an irresponsible person like me :/
