I have DVD's and some of them have been damaged already. I don't know how because all i do is take them out of a bag-like thingy that has plastic pockets for about 20 DVD's. i just take them out, and put them back in. i don't see how they coud get scratched . but some of them don't work anymore. Then how? Should i make like 10 back up copies for each DVD i have?

No finger prints!!!!
Why aren't you keeping the DVDs in their ORIGINAL cases.
That little bag-like thingy is probably the culprit, dust, crumbs and other debris are probably sitting in the pockets.

sometimesw those folders have king of rough insides, a simple way to fix them is to put them in a cd cleaner, and for the rest of them, they should be cleaned every once in a while, but if you want to have them as long as possible, you should really put them in regular dvd cases

There could be many reasons, but one to check is that they are not left near anything magnetic..ie stereos ect.A disc is a magnetic medium and therefore prone to magnetic fields.I've heard somewhere that you should back them up every 10 years or so anyway.
