Well, in truth, Lucifer is not the actual name of Satan/the Devil before he fell from heaven. His actual name differs in some sources, such as the term ha-satan, but the reason why we all think that Lucifer is his former name is because of a misinterpretation of a passage in the book of Isaiah. Thus, because it isn't actually the Devil's former name, it's quite alright. BTW, Lucifer means "light-bearer."

People are entitled to do whatever they want. But I think in this case your choice is going to affect the lifestyle of your son. You have to have known that he is probably going to get picked on in school. Children can be cruel and so can adults. I personally do not like it for the obvious reasons.

Ask him when he gets into the job scene . What may seem neat and cool to you , is a life time of torment for the child . I don't like the name , and it is a terrible joke to play on your son .

When I first read your question....I started to laugh....then I thought about it and realized that it isn't the name that makes him who he is.....its him...along with your guidance and support....it could be a new way of showing everyone that there isn't anything to fear in a name.....besides....chances are.....some people will nickname him Luc for short (its their way of keeping from feeling uncomfortable)......As for me personnally.... I think its awesome!!!

He is going to live his life for however long fate or God allows then he will die. Instead of worrying about what others think, I would worry about your son not knowing God so that he may be saved and not have to endure the punishment coming for people that name their kids after Satan.

I would have chosen something that wasn't quite so main stream like Beelzebub, but Lucifer is good. At least you didn't choose Damian.
